They did, but they also had Chad Pennington and Randy Moss. They were sort of atypical.

Go ahead and stop any talk of Mike coming to Liberty. Its all about the offense in terms of what they run. He'll certainly look to land at a school that runs a West Coast/Pro Style Offense. I'm pretty sure that Richmond will be the back-up plan if he doesn't find the right situation at an FBS school. He'll have several options to choose from and talks will heat up with schools later this week.

Rocco will not be coming to LU regardless. Richmond may be a back up plan.

Arkansas is a likely target. He wants to go to a school that is a BCS contender. Although I dont foresee Arkansas being that...

Interesting to see him leave. He did have a better completion % and YPA than Sims, but Rocco had a real INT problem. His TD-INT ratio was 26-22 over two years of playing mostly full time while Sims was 9-4 this year and obviously has more time left at UVA. I'll trust the judgement of a coach who won a national title on this one.

Has anyone heard anything new on this topic? I'm hearing uncofirmed rumors that there is a DIII school in the mix. Hard to believe but wouldn't be the first time it's happened (FCS to DIII)...

He plays in FBS. There would be no reason to go to DIII unless every FBS and FCS QB position is filled for next year. That would be some hard luck.

There was a guy back in the early 90's that went from FSU ( I think) to Trinity International University in Deerfield, which is NAIA. He got drafted. Ironically, Leslie Frazier was the coach. He of course now coaches Christian Ponder who married Samantha Steele. Now if only we could get a Kevin Bacon sighting.

Saw this on Doug Doughty's Twitter on Dec. 30th:

Heard twice today that #UVa QB Michael Rocco is visiting Temple, where Owls' QB Chris Coyer will be a senior next year. Rocco would sit out.

The player you are referring to is Jon Stark. What you did not mention is that before he attended FSU, he played a year at Liberty as a freshman. He was our backup QB and punter and heir apparent to be a starter at QB the next 3 years. Word is he left school after being cought ïn the act¨with his GF on one of the back roads on the mountain by none other than Doc himself.

Hope it works out great for Mike Rocco. Probably would have been a Flames if things were handled differrntly with Uncle Danny.

Think we'd want to kill Woodrum's confidence for his final years by sitting him in place of Rocco? I'm sure Mike is the better QB but Woodrum is pretty good in his own right and it'd be a risk to do that to him. At any rate, Uncle Danny's time was over here. Not sure things could have been "handled different".

Richmond Times-Dispatch wrote:Case of UR QB Rocco now on appeal

Michael Rocco must hold his stance in football limbo for a while longer.

The waiver the University of Richmond submitted to the NCAA in mid-February on behalf of the quarterback who transferred to UR from Virginia in January was denied, Spiders coach Danny Rocco said on Tuesday.

Richmond will appeal, and Danny Rocco remains hopeful that Michael Rocco, his nephew, could be eligible this season for the Spiders, who return 17 starters from an 8-3 team that shared the 2012 CAA Football championship.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The NCAA has informed the University of Richmond that the Legislative Council Subcommittee for Legislative Relief denied the school’s appeal for a one-time transfer exception for football student-athlete Michael Rocco.

NCAA bylaws require two seasons of remaining eligibility in order for a student-athlete to play immediately when transferring from the Football Bowl Subdivision to the Football Championship Subdivision. Rocco, a transfer from the University of Virginia, has one season of eligibility remaining and is on track to graduate in four years. He is currently enrolled at Richmond as a transfer in residence.
