Careful, you're in danger of sounding like an old hag! :)
First off, I'm a well-documented Old Hag. Second, I gave credit to the Mountaineers.

If you look back I was referring to Dana's act. I have been around his offenses for about a decade including his recent stint at UH. And yes, his offense is built on gimmickry. That has nothing to do with Saturday's game. Gimmickry can be effective until defenses adjust.
Except Saturday wasn't so much gimmickry as it was power running right down the throats of a defense that was supposed to stop WVU from moving the ball at will.

I still don't understand how Holgorsen's offensive schemes are founded in gimmickry. He puts the ball into the hands of speedy athletes in space. Is it gimmickry, you think, because it's imbalanced?

He is a Mumme/Leach disciple. Gimmickry should not always be considered a crack. It is a skill of assessing a short-term opportunity to exploit. Eventually defenses adjust and you have to come up with something new. When Dana was here in Houston, he was all kinds of crazy gimmicks with Kolb. That's why the Baylor/WVU matchup was so crazy with two linked coaches working the same angles.

There isn't anything gimmicky about their offense, it's just not traditional running football....

It's space the field get the athletes in open space and let them make plays.... It's someone being smart and different... It wins a ton of games and at some point will win it all!

You have to be a little different if you can't always sign the biggest fastest players.. It's called coaching!

They had no defense those seasons. They've taken a leap forward on that front, but still probably not enough to win it all this season.

They rely on athletically over matching the other side of the ball. Once they play a squad that has comparable athletes on defense, it's over. The scheme is one dimensional.
That is the truth.
