Look, if those future 1st rd picks are real high picks, Shanahan/Allen will be shown the door, so I think it was easy for them to justify. Losing the 2nd rounder this year will hurt the most. I wish people would quit blasting the Redskins receivers, they're not bad, and that's an easy fix in the middle rounds of the draft.

What makes this interesting is now you have a situation where the second pick is actually worth more than the first pick this year. RG3 now has more value than Luck, and more pressure. But he'll be going to a much better team.

I was hoping that they'd stay put and see if Griffin would fall to them, and if not take Claiborne. But I think with the Browns offering basically this same trade made the price seem reasonable, so they went for a franchise-changing move rather than continued improvement.

One of these QBs do NOT belong....

A. Eli Manning (2-time Super bowl champion)
B. Tony Romo (Pro-bowler)
C. Michael Vick (Pro-bowler)
D. Rex Grossman

I don't blame the Skins for making this trade. You need a quality QB to win these days. I'm hopeful RG III can be that guy.

Rex has been to more Super Bowls than Romo.

Sorry, but I haven't followed the NFL much since the Colts left Baltimore. If RG3 is the number 2 pick in the draft, who will likely be number 1?

Another good Baltimore Colts fan, same here. Loved Unitas, Matte, Mackey, Smith, Hendricks, Berry, etc.

True. As far as Grossman is concerned, he's wildly inconsistent. One quarter, he'll play lights-out and have no interceptions. The next quarter, he turn into "Bad Rex" and play like a wild man. I don't mind him here as a back up though. I think he's at least deserves that since he knows Kyle's offense.

Redskins have signed Garcon and possibly Josh Morgan to help RGIII. Interesting to see if Anthony Armstrong or Santana Moss get left out this year.

Garcon is a good pick up. Speed like that is exactly what the Bengals needed to complete their receiving corps. I guess they'll just sit on top of their pile of cap money instead.

I'd guess that Moss, Hankerson and Gaffney are all safe. Terrance Austin, AAA, and Brandon Banks may want to start looking for new housing.

These pickups show once again that the days of the crazy FA contract in DC may be done. Shanahan and Allen are likely going with low guarantee/high incentive deals just like they did with Gaffney, Chester, Cofield, Bowen and Otogwe last year.

Looks like a $42.5m deal for 5 years with $21m guaranteed. Garcon averaged 5.1 yac last year. Vincent Jackson was at 3.7 and Santana Moss was 3.8. Garcon set career highs in catches, yards, longest catch, and first downs, along with tying his high in TD catches, without Manning last year. Not bad for a guy who doesn't turn 26 until August.

Looks like the Skins have also brought back Adam Carriker to be the top DL sub, and possibly start again if Jarvis Jenkins isn't fully up to speed by the start of the season. EDIT: Looks like 4yr/$20m, $7m signing bonus but nothing on the guaranteed amount.

EDIT 2: Add Eddie Royal to the WR signings. Both Morgan and Royal are VT grads that are from the DC area (Morgan went to WT Woodson in DC, Royal went to TC Williams in Alexandria).

No way Moss sticks, especially if 'Skins end up signing Eddie Royal on top of Garçon and Josh Morgan.

My guess is they go with Garçon, Gaffney, Morgan, Hankerson and Niles Paul. It's possible that Armstrong gets another look but he was in the doghouse for the majority of last season so he'll probably be one of the first few to get the axe. The 'Skins really liked Paul's blocking ability last year and the run game suffered a little when he went down.

I do think Royal will sign with them and I'd add him to that list. I think they'll go with 6, but I'm not sure who on that list is a kick/punt returner.

I'm interested to see if Royal recaptures his rookie season stats now that he's back in that offense again. Shanahan may feel he knows exactly how to get the maximum out of him.

I guess they weren't happy with Moss dogging it often last year, and picking up a couple of huge bonehead penalties, after they showed him some loyalty with the contract he got.

Rumored potential signings are CB Eric Wright, TE John Carlson (with Cooley being released once the signing is final) and RT Eric Winston. Still nothing on a S even with both Landry and Otogwe being considered goners. I was hoping to hear that Fletcher would be back already.

I've gotten to watch the pro day for both Griffin and Luck. As a Redskin fan, I'm positively giddy. Knowing the body of work that each has, seeing both being interviewed, and having someone like Bill Polian saying both guys are as can't miss as it gets is just crazy. After 20 years of crap, the Skins finally did what they had to to get an elite QB. No price is too high for that. Come on April 26, it's time to get here already.

I overheard 2 guys talking in Wendys today saying how the skins should tank the season to try for the #1 pick. Didn't have the heart to tell them.

I'm posting that in this thread to bump it so that everybody can see that I was right.

And as long as I'm posting, I'd like to talk about how the new rookie salary rules have quietly revolutionized what is happening in football. An underrated player can set your salary cap up for 3 years. The seahawks are paying nothing for Wilson, same goes for Kapernick I think. Vontaze Burfict is top 3 in tackles and being undrafted, he's probably making league minimum. It'll be interesting to see what happens to these teams who are reaping the benefits after the rookie contracts expire.

Cap penalties by the league have hurt them more than the lack of a pick last year. They can't pay players.

Hey guys. I think I'll bump this every year until it is acknowledged that I was right and the redskins would be better off having had those 2 1st rounders.

and the 2nd rounder who typically ends up being a starter...yea this one hurts. Add on the salary cap pentalites of close to 18 million per year for two years..and yea you see what kind of product is put on the field..hopefully we wont abandon gruden too early.

The cap penalties hurt much more than the draft picks. Cousins isn't a long-term solution. A healthy Robert Griffin is. I know, key word is "healthy". It was still a good trade and pick, as evidenced by the the overwhelming awesomeness of quarterbacks that have come out of college since 2012.

Go back in the way-back machine and you'll see that I was a big proponent of Russell Wilson after his senior year at Wisconsin, and thought he would be a great pick if the Redskins could wait long enough. But as you can see, not many people felt the same way. If you have a chance at a franchise QB, which I think Griffin still is, you take it.

I read the other day that the Redskins were really close to getting Jake Cutler when he was available. That's interesting, but I see Cutler as a big crash & burn candidate if in Washington.

Ability = availability.

Griffin isn't a log term solution. Media circus, and average talent isn't material for a franchise QB.

Cousins had a terrible night last night, I wouldn't sell on him just yet. Cutler has had a handful of terrible games. Favre had his share too. Not saying that Cousins will ever be that level, but it seems silly to sell on him this early. The offense at least has a chance to be productive with him behind center. The key will be in how he responds.
