I honestly think this is a great hire. The Moglia guy knows how to be successful and wants to coach bad. Downside is if he is successful at all he will be gone. But great hire for the short term.

This guy has spent one season as a college football coach since the mid-80s. Does he have any connections for recruiting? Or any connections with other potential assistant coaches? It's an odd hire. Will be interesting to see how this pans out.

I came to the board this morning prepared to say what a great hire Amato was for them. Not sure what to make of this. The guy clearly has leadership skills and a knack for making $ but can he coach? Why would you go with him over a proven guy with presumably great recruiting connections in the Carolinas?

Since 1983, this guy has spent one year as an “unpaid voluntary assistant coach/mentor” for Nebraska and been the head coach of 2 different UFL teams for 1 year each. Is this a joke?

This is really weird. Rumor was that Bennett had to buy his own banners outside of the stadium. Maybe they wanted someone who could afford better banners? Or maybe they want him to buy his own stadium expansion?

Great Hire. They can suck for 4 years and guilt this fool into building improvements, then just let'em go. How much os he getting paid? Was Bernie not available?

Darren Rovell gave them a shoutout:
Love Coastal Carolina's hire of TD Ameritrade chairman Joe Moglia. Made $10 million in 2009 as TD Ameritrade's CEO

He's getting paid $175K.

But how can you "let'em go" if you want him to be a donor long-term?

You get all the money you can out of him right now... ;) You will eventually have to take your program serious... Did they consider a coach from the Lingerie league? They could have brought some interesting benefits too.

The only way this works and they're successful in the short term is if they have one VERY impressive coaching staff. Meaning this guy is forking over a ton of his own money to hire the best staff possible.

I don't know. I guess this could be a situation where it's a case of a smart guy that can be successful at whatever he tries. Like Mike Leach. He's a lawyer and never even played college football. Although I guess the big difference there is he had to work his way up. So it could work, but seem kind of a long shot. And if they're getting any good recruits, I know what everybody here will be thinking. I think the football program probably just needs money. And this is kind of an easy way to get some.

I'm assuming he's referring to a mill stone.

WOW!! Now people can pay to coach? What a joke that program will be. We believe in our football program here at CCU - let me introduce you to our volunteer coach...

Maybe you should change your name to Coastal Black, Coastal Red, Coastal Yellow... Isn't that what rec teams refer themselves by?

Technically he is being paid the $175k, but it will go towards the asst coaches to get the ones he wants. He has a list of 50 coaches in a depth chart, and he has had this for 3 years. He updates it weekly. So from a tax standpoint, it might be his money, but he won't see it.
