And we're supposed to feel bad about this?
Uh we will if they decide to pull a Birmingham Southern and go DIII and leave the BSC. AKA bye bye auto bid.

The Big South is still AWESOME!

And KK has shown the leadership and passion needed to keep the Big South on the rise from when he took over. He has done a wonderful job in keeping the vision of excelling in athletics.

Listen after the two huge losses in UMBC and UNCG hes rebounded by picking up Elon(who went to a IAA FB powerhouse), HP, Presby, and Gardner Webb full time. The conference added football 5 years after he got there and in 2 years well finally have an automatic bid to the playoffs. I think hes done a good enough job to not get hounded by you guys every time an LU guy doesnt get an award he could have because "The Big South hates us."

You've got me convinced that you aren't being sarcastic and yet you mentioned Elon in points FOR kk. That's quite a conundrum.

Losing Elon to a conference known for excelling in football cannot be attributed to the commish. Elon made a jump to an established conference. The Big South had 4 football teams in the last year of Elon's association, including them. Neither Coastal nor VMI had a program yet and the fact of the matter is when you have the Southern Conf with a spot open its going to get jumped on. There is nothing he could have done to keep Elon.

You cant blame KK for inheriting a conference on a downslide(losing 1/3 of the conference in 4 years is a downslide, yes?) with no football. He brought in more schools and he brought in football, and in 2 years its actually going to mean something.

He has brought in five schools: Elon, G-W, HPU, BSU, and PC. Two of those have left already and a third one may be on the way out in a few years. That's not a good track record.

The ACC was going to lose FSU due to a lack of a championship game, so their (evil) commish raided another conference and took their better teams to solidify their position. That's an example of what a commish should be looking to do. The Big East had 500 teams all playing different sports and on different levels. Their commish stayed with the status quo just happy that they had some teams competing. He could have split the conference by sport, aquired up and coming teams, lured good teams that weren't happy with where they were. That's an example of what a commish shouldn't be doing. The Big South seems to bleed out programs when they get decent and then will acquire whatever they can find to fill the schedules.

Elon is the only example of that.

Coastal has(d) a decent upcoming program and theyre still here
Gardener Webb certainly can be considered a decent program
Liberty is now decent and where are we? oh yeah the Big South.

Whether you want to recognize it or not, this conference is getting better quicker than you think and as long as Presby sticks around (I dont remember seeing intel saying theyre leaving just yet) this conference will be in much better shape than it was 12 years ago.

Of course, in the Big East and ACC exapmles, they also had football. Good football. KK's pull will be much greater when we get the auto bid.

Kyle Kallandar is a joke. He fed us false information for six months about the playoffs and then when it was found out he was wrong, he never once apologized. When your conference commissioner tells you something about scheduling, he should know what he's actually talking about.

He has yet to fix the conference tournament issues of playing games where none of the fans can actually get into the arena.

He does not look to the future at all. He has added two DII schools in Birmingham Southern and PC who have had big time trouble financing the move to Division I (if the rumors out of PC are true, and it's likely they are). He should've looked into it more than that instead of just picking up anyone who would come to us.

We should be ACTIVELY making pursuits to get SC State in the conference. They are incredibly unhappy with the MEAC.

Instead of going after DII's that are moving up, we should make ourselves appealing to some of the other teams at our level. That doesn't mean we will get them, but we should at least try to recruit them.

When Liberty University can negotiate a tv deal that is 10x better than the conference tv deal, it shows that the people at the conference level aren't very good.

Or convince Campbell to add scholarships and get them back in full-time.

With the hard feelings on both sides when Campbell pulled out of the Big South, I doubt very seriously they will ever come back.

I think they would rather be here than in the A-Sun right now in all sports but football.

Coastal put an official marketing package together trying to leave the Big South as soon as they started their football program. The only reason they're still with us is that the SoCon found Samford more appealling.
Gardener Webb certainly can be considered a decent program
G-W is mediocrity personified. In no way can they be considered a decent program.
Liberty is now decent and where are we? oh yeah the Big South.
Until recently, we were no better than most of the other programs in the conference. Barber and Friends have changed that and changed it fast.

As for the conference itself, yes, the conference is getting better. Unfortunately, its leadership is not.

Back to the topic at hand, I found this posted by Bulldog Blue on the D2 board.
This is gossip and I probably shouldn't put it on here but I'm going to post it anyway because the source is creditable and it is relevant to the issue of the coaching change.

I have a friend at PC who is a 5th year senior. He has an on campus internship and has daily contact with PC administrators. He said that they all say that PC is having financial problems. Part of the problem is the cost associated with the switch from D-2 to D-1. The Athletic Budget is deep into red ink and the fiscal year is only about halfway through. Costs with starting graduate programs were grossly underestimated and those programs will not generate a positive cash flow for at least 3 years. Enrollment is down as is retention. Donations to major gift campaigns are far behind expected projections.

The president of PC, Dr. Griffith, has been instructed by the board to cut expenses and institute a hiring freeze. The football coach who resigned was promised a lot to get him there. Because of it's financial problems PC couldn't deliver according to my friend. He says that's why the coach left.
