This Davidson team is hands down better than any WU team ever. That is not a shot at the Eagles but just a statement of how good Davidson is right now.

The 2008 Davidson Wildcats proved tonight that they are one of the five best mid major teams ever, ranking with the early cinderella Gonzaga teams (you know when they actually won games in the tournament) and the George Mason Final Four squad.

When's the last time Winthrop made it to even the Sweet 16?? Oh wait, never. Been to the tourney 8 of the past 10 years and only made it past the first round once, so which Winthrop team is better then?? Whichever team it is certainly never proved it in the tourney!

realist, i think it is time for you to change your name....you are far from a realist if you think this Davidson team isn't better then any team WU has ever had......what is in the water down there man????

im lookin forward to seeing how davidson does against wisc. yes, wisc has great defense, but i want to see how they react to a little guy that can shoot the lights out, distribute the ball, and apparently doesn't get tired.

sure davidson's not supposed to win, but this is march, and it looks to me like cinderella's still dancin!
Wisconsin beat Indiana twice (who has Eric Gordon) and Texas (a team with a phenomenal back court), and Michigan State twice (Drew Netizel anyone?). Eric Gordon has stamina and can shoot it, Texas gaurds have stamina and can fill it up, and everyone should know by now that Drew Neitzel can light up a team. Wisconsin had two guards on the Big 10 defensive team, which had just 6 players and was voted on by the coaches. They did lose to guard heavy Marquette and Duke (when Duke was actually playing really well at the beginning of the season), but they have shown throughout the season that they can take care of business against teams with outstanding guards.

All stats current as of the 22nd, Wisconsin holds opponents to 38% from the field and 30.5% from three. opponents shoot just 13.3 free throws a game on average while Wisconsin averages 20.7 attempts a game and shoot 70.7% from the stripe. They have only had five foul outs while having 22 players foul out against them.

The badgers score 67.6 per game and allow a ridiculously low 53.9 a game. They have three players in double figures and six players averaging 7.5 a game or more.

Wisconsin is 10-2 in road games and 5-0 on netural site games
blah blah blah...

stats sure meant a lot to every higher seed in tampa didn't it? ask Duke for instance? how bout G-town?

the fact is, that NOTHING matters in march other than winning the next game. throw the stats out the window. until the clock strikes 12, Cinderella is STILL dancing. it really doesn't matter WHAT Wisc. has done over the season, b/c the only stats that will matter are the ones AFTER the game. That IS, after all, why they play the game... and let 64/5 teams in. Unless you're a 16 seed, you've got a shot.
i dont mean this in a bad way, but...

73-56.... what? stats? records?
i stand vindicated :D

GO DAVIDSON!!!!

Scar, you're nuts if you think that team is better than quite a few Winthrop teams. They have no inside presence and are facing a very watered down tourney this year. Again, they've had a nice little hot run but this is the first time in how many years they've ever proved they can beat a top 100 team.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA classic...almost spit my drink all of my computer screen I laughed so hard. Thanks for that laugh, "Realist."

Yes, and I'm sure Winthrop is also better than the George Mason Final 4 squad (and the entire CAA for the past 10 years), the Missouri Valley and Atlantc 10 conferences plus the winning teams of Gonzaga in the 90s.

Hey, don't say I lack intelligence because of what Realist posts. Let me show my lack of intelligence in my own posts. :)

Winthrop is not even in the same conversation as Davidson, Gonzaga, or Mason.

WU gets a mention alongside all of the other one-game winners. They were last year's Sienna or San Diego.

or even uw-milwaukee, any missouri valley team that made it past the second round, or kent st., or butler (pre-top 25 butler era), or western kentucky, how many more mid-major teams do I need to run off that have a better overall ncaa tournament resume than Winthrop?

I have to agree with Realist. At best Curry is a poor man's Robbie Waldrop.

Fun story.

I had a house party tonight. In an ironic twist of fate, the director of facility services for Davidson College was here. Apparently the best friend of a co-worker's of my fiance. She set up all the buses and everything for the students trip. It was awesome talking to her and and hearing everything going on. I still stand by my comments before but I have to say I'm rooting for the cats from here on out. That was cool.

ESPN has spoken (again and again and again) and it is now official. The name of this team is "Stephen Curry and Davidson"

The rest of the team are "The Pips"

I have to think the Davidson-train ends today. Kansas poses way too many matchup problems for the Wildcats.

However, with the way things have been going, I can't say I'd be surprised to see Davidson win again.

That's funny Old flame. I love that commercial too. I used that line talking about Reggie Williams and VMI in the 1st meeting in the Vines this season.

Numerous mentions on both CBS and ESPN about Stephen having "I can do all things" written on his shoe. It seems they actually don't know about the rest of the sentence, or if they do they don't want to broach the subject............................ "through Christ who strengthens me".

Curry hasn't scored, Davidson has had 3 of their shots blocked, but they are still WINNING early on, 9-6.

Huge 3 by Curry. That's 159 3's this season which breaks the single season record.

And then a layup and another 3, 8 straight points.

Davidson even had a Curry quote on its splash page:
"Davidson has a different environment and atmosphere compared to the other schools I visited. The trust between students here makes me feel very comfortable.”
