I don't know if you'll read it but here's an interesting read about it NAJ.
Interesting, but kind of a short article. I wish he'd done a comparison of all the full-time closers over the past 5 years or so. I'm not saying he cherry-picked the players which support the argument, but I couldn't tell based on the small sample size. I tend to agree that closers probably shouldn't be pitching in non-save situtations. I'd just like to see more data to back it up.

Wow, that hurt. What is it that the O's can never get ahead of these guys. They've been chasing them all year. A month either tied or one game out but can never get ahead. Now this. Two outs away from finally getting a step ahead. I hate Ibanez. :flamingdevil

As much as it hurts, I have to say that was a high risk but a genius move on the part of their manager to pinch hit for A-Rod in the 9th. Lighting struck twice in the same game--against two usually lights out relief pitchers.

You are right. It turned out to be a tremendous call by a manager. I guess Ibanez is the Yankees' new Mr. October.

Ten hours later, I'm looking at the bright side. I can envision it setting up. Orioles win Game 4, then one last chance this season to finally get ahead of the Yankees, when it means the most. Just have to win Game 4 tonight... :D

Nate McLouth. If the O's go farther than this, he's got to become the poster child for this inexplicable season they're having.

Edit: Seriously, someone check McLouth for amnesia. It's amazing how he seems to have forgotten the last two years and turned back into a good player.

Thankfully it's on ESPN radio so I can listen on the drive to South Carolina.

The offense has to wake up at some point, right?

Today would be a good day for that to happen. Fortunately, the Yankees' bats have been fairly silent as well (other than Ibanez :x).

Sabathia is 1-2 with a 5.00 ERA in four starts vs. the O's this season.
Hammel is 0-1 with a 3.74 ERA in four starts vs. the Yanks this season.

This has been a great series, regardless of who wins. Even though the Birds have struggled futilely to get ahead of the Yankees all season (perhaps today is the day!), these teams really are evenly matched. The season series is tied 11-11 heading in today. The Yankees have a 103-101 edge in runs scored.

Besides getting some bats going, need Jason Hammel to go deep today. The O's bullpen has put in 11 1/3 innings of work the last two games.

Great season for the O's. Jones took a major step toward being an elite player, Wieters took a good step forward, and Machado has the makings of a superstar. Get one or two of the young starters to step up next season, with Bundy on the way, and you've really got the makings of a roster that will be good for several years.

The season is not over. That home run ball by McClutch is still under protest. Hold your horses.

Yep, if they did work the Nats might have been playing the Braves as that was the most legitimate protest issue I've seen in quite a while and MLB brushed it off like it was nothing.
