Remember the thread about ODU passing LU that was posted some time ago. Looks like ODU did leap frog LU in a shorter period of time.

For what it's worth ... an APP supporter posted this on their site yesterday???
Sorry I haven’t posted in a few days, but my source is now feeling less than good about about the situation for App.

It appears as though ODU will join CUSA after June 1st. The decision was made on Monday, and will be annouced in June formally.

This means that MTSU will stay put and leave one less space in the Sun Belt.

My source now believes that while there was some interest in the Sun Belt, the opportunity may have flown by and the conference may be looking into the state of Virginia (Liberty/JMU).

IF they keep going, my guesses would be JMU and MTSU. Possibly New Mexico State instead of JMU. I would've said FAU, but they've already indicated they're happy in the Sunbelt.
FAU is content in the Sun Belt, but they would leave for the CUSA to have an in-state league rivalry with FIU again.

He (ODU AD) was talking about the many different options that were discussed through this process. He only specifically mentioned ECB schools that were targeted by the WAC (ODU, Appy, JMU, UD, Liberty, Towson and Jax St). But he did say that they were looking for up to 6 WCB schools to create a western division. It was a quick comment as he went on to talk about the discussions about a new ECB FBS conference being formed as another option.

ODU announced today their going to the C-USA. Also, JMU has not made any indication that they want to leave. I would assume they want to and that stadium wasn't just built for looks but we're in a better position than they are. If a conference passes App St. to grab us, JB deserves a lifetime contract.

Statement from JMU regarding conference affiliation in wake of ODU's announcement:

http://www.jmusports.com/ViewArticle.db ... um=twitter
In recent days, the Colonial Athletic Association has been notified of the departure of two member institutions. Both Virginia Commonwealth University and Old Dominion University have made decisions to join other conferences.

Although James Madison University is disappointed in these decisions we continue to support the CAA and the values for which it stands. There are numerous examples of CAA schools whose values closely align with those of JMU. This list includes, among others, such institutions as William & Mary, Delaware and George Mason. These are schools with which we choose to be aligned because they share our commitment to academics and excellence in all sports, not just one or two.

James Madison University is extremely proud of its comprehensive commitment to all of its student-athletes, athletic programs and fans. The conference realignment discussion for some schools has focused on particular sports and in doing so does a disservice to the other student athletes, athletic programs and the fans. JMU has and always will take a holistic view of its athletic programs. This philosophy is evident in JMU's balanced investments in facilities, scholarship and opportunities. In addition, JMU's holistic view of athletics has positioned our student-athletes to be successful in the classroom, in life and on the field. This success is clearly seen in the very high graduation rate numbers.

The conference now finds itself in the position of adding new member institutions that share the values and commitments of the current members. The CAA commissioner, Tom Yeager, has been working to develop a roster of institutional prospects. As one can imagine, these are delicate and complex issues that require some time to process before public disclosure. We will do our best to communicate to our fans at the appropriate time regarding an expanded membership.

I wonder how long that stance will last? Will they stick to the CAA even if the MAC or SBC comes calling?

In a way you have to have to respect JMU for staying put but then again you have to wonder what they are thinking...They could move up sooner than us or Georgia Southern that is for sure.

Well I guess CUSA went after that mega conference after all...I was just hoping they'd include us in the party if they did.

I guess Rocco's move makes a little more sense now....

Dude, seriously thought you said Richmond and Delaware are joining

Where in the JMU statement does it say they wouldn't jump.at first invitation? Anytime someone starts dropping "holistic approach" into their statement then my antenna goes up indicating a lack of credibility.

Congrats to ODU. That eliminates them as a JMU travel partner to everywhere except CUSA. We appear to be aligned as a package option for either MAC or Sun Belt whether folks up in Harrisonburg like it or not.

Looks like Liberty and Appy are the next two schools in line for an invite since JMU came out and said no and Georgia Southern needing time to raise funds.

nvm I guess Delaware is doing a FBS study so they might sneak in and get a MAC bid

yeah I don't know why everybody is so JMU crazy. I have never read anything about them moving up other than the assumption that they are. Why do we assume that? Because they expanded their stadium?

One note on ODU, that I haven't seen mentioned, they won't begin play in the C-USA until 2015. That's the same year as Charlotte. I kind of think the C-USA would want a team that can play asap. Only we provide that.

We're being pursued or we're pursuing? Not questioning you, but do you have a source?

Ditto on what sweat said. I also agree with what sly said that JMU would not move if offered. They expanded their stadium, they beat tech recently. That stadium is not for looks. The JMU statement seems like smoke and mirrors to me. Just sayin...

Agreeing with the above...Im sure nobody in on the process (at least here) would leak to a guy on a message board. So unless your source is involved in the process somehow I do wonder where you get that kind of information...and internet message boards arent exactly the most reliable sources for news either...
