Wow, UCLA fans are already giving up on the Bruins.
UCLA fans pass on exhibition

Want to see one of the saddest Instagram photos of all-time? Here.

That comes courtesy of UCLA senior and Daily Bruin sports columnist Sam Strong, who snapped that shot of an entirely empty Bruins student section five minutes before tip-off of last night's exhibition game against Cal State San Marcos. Strong followed up for the Daily Bruin today:

“I thought they canceled it,” freshman guard Jordan Adams said Monday.

Ohh Rio, Rio, dance across and all over the Campbell Camels.

Rio Grande (NAIA) defeats Campbell. UNC Asheville played close with D2 Lenoir Ryhne, and Presby needed a late rally to fight of D2 North Greenville.

Great comeback by IU in regulation. Butler shows the 3 is the great equalizer.

It was only a matter of time before Duke got there. Indiana was going to have to play their second decent opponent away from Assembly Hall at some point. Just like last year, I bet they struggle away from home a good bit because they can't play decent defense.

Their play on defense is actually a lot better than last year. The big issue on Saturday was that they couldn't hit a shot to save their lives. Butler out-muscled them the entire game and made them uncomfortable, forcing them to play a completely different style of basketball. Indiana will recover, but they need to get the football blocking dummies into the gym this week and do some work.

Btw, Butler is a good team and Brad Stevens might just be the best coach in college basketball.

Butler shot 47.8% overall, 11-24 (45.8%) from three. They scored 43 points just in the second half, 12 points in a five-minute OT period. 12 points in five minutes would put Butler on pace to score 48 points in a 20-minute half. And they earned all those points, it's not like Indiana had to revert to hacking the last minute to put Butler on the foul line to try to win the game. That's not good defense. Indiana couldn't even stop a short, slow, walk-on from scoring the game winner on an ISO play.

Keep in mind this is the same team that only scored 47 against Xavier, 61 against Illinois, and 67 against Ball State. We aren't talking a high caliber offensive team here.

He mixed up Newport and Newtown...but passionate speech. The message of Christ is needed more now, than perhaps ever in world history.

Don't think I've been around these parts in a few years... Hello Flame Fans...

Couple quick thoughts. Bravo Pat Kelsey! Being an Ohio guy loved what he did and obviously agree 100%. Been a while since I liked a Winthrop coach this much.

My Bulldogs had a pretty impressive roadtrip hanging tough with tOSU -- and then taking down both St. John and Northeastern. It's been fascinating to see the change from the mid-2000's when we were running out 5'10"-5'11" guards (notorious Flame fan favorite Bryan Smithson) and 6'8" centers to this years "Young" team where we have a 6'4" PG in Keith Hornsby and multiple bigs playing 6'10" +. Obviously we've struggled at times this year against inferior opponents (USC Upstate) but pretty happy about beating a Big East team.

Honestly I'm just as disappointed as many of you with what's going on at Liberty. I know the landscape of the Big South has changed but I want to see LU successful and I think it's good for the conference. Just glancing through a few of the posts in the MBB forum remind me of conversations we had before our new arena was built, when we struggled during conference games to fill the old Justice Center.

The reality is that winning does cure all ills. Fair or not. Over the last two years a winning basketball program has brought increasing notoriety to UNCA (along with a significant increase in academic standards for admission, and local advertising), and the administration has built more on campus dorms and facilities enabling increased enrollment. The fanbase has spiked. Not only has the community involvement increased but shockingly enough (to an alum like myself that was used to drum circles and being looked down on by the general student population because I was an athlete), UNCA students have actually started on campus "fan" groups and web-sites devoted to the athletics department. Not trying to just trumpet the progress my school has made -- but -- just a gentle reality check to some of the flame fans complaining about the administration.

Our marketing/promotions, and even our AD severely lack in so many ways. But the last 2-3 years
have helped transform our students and the profile of our university. Nothing is more fun to 18-21 year old students than to get behind a winning sports program -- especially if your friends/relatives/etc don't really know all that much about the university you are attending.

Big Ten basketball at its finest level of incompetence: Wisconsin beat Nebraska 47-41, it was tied 19-19 at halftime. Yet that wasn't even the lowest scoring half of the day in the Big Ten. Minnesota currently leads Northwestern 17-14 at the half.

Slow tempo and good defense. Boring? Sure. Incompetent? No.

There's a difference between good defense and incompetent offense as Wisconsin shows on an annual basis in the NCAA Tournament. As far as Nebraska goes, ranks 269th by Ken Pomeroy in tempo adjusted offense, 101st in tempo adjusted defense. Northwestern is 101st and 119th respectively. We're talking mediocre to bad basketball on both offense and defense for those two teams.

Its still caring to some degree...anyway here's an interesting tidbit...through 15 games Liberty is 4-11 while ODU (who was in the NCAA tournament last year) is only 2-13.

To be fair, against D1 schools Liberty is 1-11 and ODU is 2-13.

This is true adam...still to see ODU struggling this mightily is a surprise seeing as they had quite a run of success right up there with VCU and GMU (who both have made runs to the Final Four)
