If you want to talk ASUN smack or ramble ad nauseum about your favorite pro or major college teams, this is the place to let it rip.

The ESPN deal would be very appealing.

The MAC has always been the place that I've hoped we would land. The geography would make traveling manageable and the competition would allow us to jump in and be competitive right away. The Sun Belt just doesn't do it for me.

Here's a nice read regarding realignment and the CAA:

http://www.dailypress.com/sports/colleg ... 871.column
Sources are not optimistic. They fear CAA basketball pillars VCU and George Mason soon will bolt to the Atlantic 10. Those shifts, the sources suspect, would force others, such as Old Dominion, James Madison and William and Mary, to ponder moving.

Premature and risky though it would be, JMU, ODU and Delaware might consider forming a new, all-sports Bowl Subdivision conference with the likes of Liberty (itching to upgrade from the Big South) and East Carolina (tired of life in geographically disparate Conference USA).

+1. that football contract they have for tuesday and wednesday nights on the ESPN family of networks would show a full rowdy stadium, unlike the other schools in the MAC. Other than men's basketball we could be competing for championships pretty quickly, and the MAC also has better bowl tie-ins.

If we got into the MAC, theyd probably switch hall meetings back to Thursdays if we got TV games on Tuesday

But I thought we were going to the ACC, it was just a matter of time? :(

If the Mac expands, maybe they could make an advertising agreement with McDonalds and call themselves "The Big MAC". Seriously, I think LU will end up in the MAC in the next 2 years and I will be excited about it!

The MAC would be a suitable option. But let's not kid ourselves that it is a big step up from the Sun Belt. the two are on a similar plane. It just comes down to a regional preference. The northern guys on here all like the idea of the MAC while the Southern guys lean toward the Sun Belt. They are all FBS and that is really what interests us the most.

I'm a 'Northern Guy' from the heart of MAC Country, and I think it would not be a wise move. I guess SMOOTH and I cancel each other out! :)

Still looking for a concrete news link on it. I should have put a question mark by no more trips to LI? ... ran out of characters. Stupid Twitter.

Congrats to Stony Brook. If any other Big South football team leaves before another is added, the Big South loses the auto-bid. Let's hope Coastal doesn't follow, for now.

Winthrop's getting a new president in the summer of 2013 after the cureent one retires....maybe he/she will be more receptive to adding football than the current president is (though the same budget and Title IX hurdles will still remain).

This was a good move for SBU... 4 years ago. They just jumped off of a rowboat onto a yacht whose current passengers are either bailing water or looking for the life rafts.

The back-up plan is the main plan. Leave the Big South and go FBS ASAP!

Can I get some sources and links about 1. NT to CUSA and 2. The CUSA/MWC merger falling apart?

This was first tweeted:
The North Texas Daily received information Wednesday night from a source saying the UNT Board of Regents had authorized a move from the Sun Belt Conference to Conference USA.
But after more research, I just found this:
The Board of Regents, in a meeting Wednesday afternoon, only gave President V. Lane Rawlins authority to look at other athletic conferences. The Board of Regents did not approve a conference move.
Not sure what the true story is.

North Texas & FIU have been considered locks to CUSA for months now. The question remains whether or not the league will expand in the coming months beyond those two teams. That has become muddier by the day.
