Georgia Southern University wants to move its football program to the NCAA’s highest level of competition – the Football Bowl Subdivision, formerly known as Division I-A. “There’s no question it’s where we want to go,” GSU President Brooks Keel said Thursday.

This is not a shock to anyone. It had been assumed by most all along. This simply confirms the intentions of the Eagles. Certainly seeing the other GSU in Atlanta get an FBS invitation only hastened the calls from alumni to put this out into the open. Frankly they have a shot at a Sun Belt invitation based primarily on proximity to current SBC geographical footprint. Outside of the Sun Belt, they really have a much lower chance of landing an invitation than we do.
The buzz about possible MAC expansion is finally starting to pick up some steam at the same time that the CAA is looking very vulnerable. If the MAC does indeed consider a Mid-Atlantic reach then you can put JMU, ODU and LU at the top of their list along with Youngstown State.
