Terrible. Must carry buoyed those media companies. Now that we live in a subscription-based world, there is significantly less revenue to go around.

Once the economic lodels fall into place, things will change. In the interim, you can expect all of your streaming services to jack up prices substantially.

I read that ESPN plans to break free of all cable packages asap and is targeting $30 per month for their app.

Pac and ACC both probably have to reload with top G5s, that have a budget to be in the power group. I can see us landing in a weaken ACC, but still being a power conference.

I'll have to see a push from LU's side to believe that.
There's a zero peecent chance that will happen with yhe scenario of improving a few years in CUSA. Like I said before, it's mostly about money now. Now that there's going to be mega conferences, the chances of LU to play any P5 is limited to impossible. Prepare for more mediocre season games if LU is comfortable with where we're at. I do believe ACC will fall like the PAC with what just happened. The programs rejecting the ACC to ads anyone is going to leave like other programs had done in their former conferences. As Dot stated in on the flames central podcast last year, LU will have to give money and not accept any revenue in a P5 conference until they place themselves in the top of the division to get a chance to even make the school's president/commissioner listen to their pitch/master plan of benefiting their league. There's no waiting until 2030 or beyond that.

I agree with this. Costin & McCaw need to be proactive right now. I do see us potentially ending up in a watered down ACC that is similar to the old Big East & 1A Indies of the 90's w/Cuse, BC, ECU, Temple, etc. But it won't happen if we "wait our turn" in order to improve our taste to institutions that will never really like us or see us as peers. Clemson, FSU, UNC & NCSU rejecting Calford & SMU is a good thing for us. Hopefully they'll hold the line.

I feel exceptionally confident that Ian will have us positioned to best leverage our unique standing fiscally and athletically to be strike when the opportunity arises. I have heard nothing but glowing early reviews of how Gen Costin has approached the LU experience. We have the right team in place.

If we are in a position to forego media payments in exchange for entry into a higher level league we will make it happen. But keep in mind there are many other factors at play.

The regionals were built on completely broken economic models. Some of the teams may rescue a few of the regionals and maintain some ownership. But I suspect we see more of what is happening in Arizona. Let the record show that one of my old LU rooommates is in the middle of that recent deal.

Advertising revenue for live sports is still a thing. Along with breaking news, it remains the last bastion of traditional television revenue. But the numbers continue to shrink and the subscription model does not look anywhere near as promising as the old must-carry days of cable.

The market will eventually adjust and shake out. But it may be a few years in the wilderness before that occurs. That is why the writers & actors strike couldn't have come at worse time for content producers and platforms.

We should be good. We just need to win most of the championships for 5-10 years (would be longer really) then get the attention of a worthier conference (who's already have 16+ teams already)

Sure - it’s possible - Navy, Tulsa, Charlotte to CUSA for 9 cents on the dollar they currently get ? Where else they going to go ? Maybe Sunbelt takes those 3 and adds 1 for an even number...who could possibly be a prime candidate for that 4th spot ?

Yes, it is possible. Nike likely, but possible. That hardball negotiating would be between Luck & Aresco at this stage. I don't think they need to dissolve the AAC to make this work. Anybody left out (Tulsa, Charlotte. Wichita State and certainly Navy if not more) would have to receive some concessions from those departing to make it work. Then those schools could theoretically re-stock back up to eight using the usual candidates from CUSA and perhaps even Army.

This is just one of many different scenarios on the table right now involving the Pac-4 and the MWC and AAC. In many of these scenarios, I could see us potentially being considered as even out numbers. Then again, it could be full Pac-4/AAC merger with no movement anywhere else. We shall see.

Interesting... If the PAC 18 becomes reality what happens to the ACC? If they lose the FSU/Clemson duo plus the NC schools, they have very few places left to go to sure up their ranks.

That's the first time I've heard you come close to placing Army in a conference. 🙂 Would love to land in a conf with Army & Navy.

The service academies have their own goals and objectives. If it were a tight regional conference with Annapolis in play, it is not crazy talk for West Point to be involved. But they have zero interest in farflung leagues particularly now that the G5-friendly playoff format is likely to be discarded.

If the G5 friendly format is discarded, I'll discarded watching the power conferences on TV.

I don't see it going away. Cinderella's are what make March so special. A G5 in football playoffs will add a lot of viewers. All of G5 will be pulling for whoever it is.

Sounds like more dominoes will be falling shortly. If this happens, I imagine SDSU, Boise & CO State at minimum will join in 2025. If I'm the New PAC, I'd try and take UTSA and UNLV as well.

Afterwards, the AAC and MWC remnants and CUSA should meet and reorganize. Heck, invite the SBC to play along as well.
