LCA got what they wanted, and will be playing sports against public schools.

1. There's a HUGE difference between the VHSL and the NCAA
2. The NCAA allows Private schools to compete. In fact the NCAA MBB champion is a Private school WITH a Seminary! <gasp>
3. Acting like a petulant child my get you what you want but it will never get you what you need
4. What SJ said

If your a local, and your kids dont attend LCA or LU, your surely to hate them now. Yay for having the annoying highschool affiliated with the college right there on campus.

Moving the church and the school over to the mountian was one of Jerry Sr. last hoorah , not well thought out decisions. Ive heard the talks the the church is moving, and so is the school. Is there any validity to that ?

The locals that have an ax to grind will grind away no matter what. I've talked to a lot of folks that don't have kids in LCA and can wrap their minds around the decision and recognize that it's good for everyone, especially with the eligibility requirements placed on LCA.

As far as moving the church, there was a plot of land set aside if the city agreed to the civic center plan.

Without the civic center, I think it will eventually happen due to growth of the university, but just not on the original timetable.

I think he's referring to what LCA's used to be compared to what they are now. There is still some inequity but it's not as bad as it was . Mostly for transfers

It's off topic, but I don't see the Civic Center happening. I don't see City Council spending the hard cash for it. Other non hard cash considerations maybe. But if the city is going to throw cash at a civic project I recommend an Ampitheater over by the stadium where they hold the Wine Fest etc. less money, more return

As part of the public high school league they have to abide by transfer rules and other eligibility requirements related to students repeating grades, etc.

There is inequity on both sides. As a parent with kids at LCA, I have less income to spend on camps, lessons for my kids as well because I'm busy paying tuition. If I had my kids in public school, it would be a heck of a lot easier for me as a parent to help facilitate their extracurricular activities.

Then again, there is some inequity when it comes to some public schools vs. other public schools.

I think students will benefit from this from both the public and private side. Years ago when I played football we loved a chance to get to play the private schools, even if they were better than us. It only made us better.

I don't think it will happen either unless a private entity (other than LU) offers to build it for the city.

Sad thing is, it is much needed and the city would benefit greatly from it.

Maybe it's the Californian in me but it would be hard for me to get excited about an amphitheater with all the weather variables here. It would be nice but if I had my druthers, I'd prefer something that could be used all year long.

But the Lynchburg Civic Center would have to compete with JPJ, Roanoke/Berglund Civic Center (recently refurbished) and the newly increased use of the Berglund Performing Arts Center.i understand about the Ampitheater. I was sorta the same way until I went to the Tribute To Rock thing. It would fill a nice niche that would be able to compete with Roanoke and help revitalize the area. All while costing far less than a CC.

We can compete with the Salem Civic Center. In fact I think we would be a better venue if those were the types of events. If we wanted to compete for those events, than maybe. Although I would put a caveat that Sacha Cohen sings the National Anthem at one of the Rodeo events

I think we could do that with the Ampitheater.
