Call me a child... I think that Sims to LU is a poor decision. Let him follow in the footsteps of Willy Korn; he was supposed to be a superstar, but ended up at North Greenville as a better than average QB. Rocky start, (Clemson, Marshall, D2) but hey, now he is WR coach at CSU.

After Randy Moss had a rocky start at Notre Dame and Florida State, he moved back to his home state and dropped down to 1-AA and had 2 good years at Marshall where he turned his life around and had a long, all-Pro NFL career.

If it happened for Moss, maybe the same could happen to Sims.

Not real sure how I feel about this, but I do have 100% faith in the coaching staff to make the correct decision. Can Sims play receiver a la Mike Brown?

The age of consent I believe is lower in Huntington than in South Bend or Tallahassee Study

I know he has the ¨dual threat¨ label going back to HS, but my impression of Sims in the little I have seen him is definately as a passer, not an athlete. Hard to picture him playing WR, but I guess it´s possible.

We should know something soon. I can´t imagine he wouldn´t be enrolling in summer school somewhere, and I believe that is Monday for LU.

We need two good QB's. Let coach Gill spend some time with the kid .... sometimes all you need is a different environment for things to fall into place. Gill knows how to show you the backdoor if you don't tow the line.

Bring him in if hevwants to come. In no wise cast him out. We have all sinned and come short of the glory of God. Sound familiar it should. At one time we have all made mistakes. There was a 3 year period of my life i strayed away and ran with the wrong crowd but praise God he never give up on me and welcomed me back with open arms. If this kid comes to LU the best university in the world thos may very well be Gods plan to help him turn around his life. Somebody on that teambjust might be the very one to reach him in a positive way.

I live 3 miles from Oscar Smith High School. Here are my observations:
1. I saw the kid play every chance I got while he was in high school. Now, he was 'only' playing against 757 talent (not Texas or anything like that), but he was incredible while he was there.
2. Coach Morgan has a system of dealing with kids from rough backgrounds- he lays down the law and expects them to follow it.
3. The whole "hardship" transfer was a bunch of BS (bad stuff). His parents moved to Tuscaloosa with him his freshman year.
4. Here's a good read on Sims and the talent that has come out of this area from his senior year of high school: http://www.tuscaloosanews.com/article/2 ... ?p=1&tc=pg

I liked Woodrum's play last year, but Sims was a 4 star recruit coming out of HS, I don't know how much competition there will be for the QB spot :?

This is stupid. Don't take Sims because he got drunk and smoked at parties? Like anyone on our football team hasn't sinned. Are we not supposed to be a school that seeks to change hearts for the Lord? I thought that was our goal? We don't need more Christians on this football team. If Sims parties, I would rather he come play at Liberty rather than if he went to Richmond or ODU. Instead of constantly thinking about what's best for Liberty, start thinking what's best for the kid. If he parties, what better school for him than Liberty? We're one of a handful of schools who discourage that behavior. If a player isn't a Christian, coming to Liberty MIGHT be the only chance he has to hear to gospel. Simply because a kid sinned at a previous school, is no reason to deny him a chance to change here.

As far as football goes, I hope that Woodrum starts the season. Sims would without a doubt be one of the best players to wear a Liberty uniform. But Woodrum has worked hard for that starting job and had a very respectable Freshman season last year. I think you send a very negative message to the team if you let some transfer take over, when your current starter is solid. If Woodrum gets injured, and then Sims comes in and plays well, maybe you can give him the snaps.
I just need some clarification here... Are we saying that because a person drinks alcohol, smokes or on occasion smokes or in some way breaks the "Liberty Way" that their a sinner?

The fact is, as Doc said, all are welcome to enroll at Liberty as long as they abide to the Liberty Way. I don't see what more or less there is to add. There's plenty of people who messed up in high school or at other colleges, and still receive not only the grace that comes through Christ, but a quality education as well.

No, a person is a sinner because they're a person. Some are forgiven sinners, and some are unforgiven sinners, but everyone is a sinner

No, I whole heartily believe that drinking alcohol, and/or smoking is NOT a sin. My post was in reference to someone bringing up Sims' past, a specific instance where he got drunk at a party. I'm at work now, so I don't really have a lot of time to re-read the post on here and quote who said what. But I believe someone was making the argument that we shouldn't give Sims an offer based on his past. I was arguing that it isn't wise to hold a student accountable for not following the Liberty way before they even attend the University.
