WTH another phantom goal!

I hate using referees as an excuse but this is getting ridiculous.

That was amazing. Now let's all pull hard for Germany so we don't have to play them

Just realized that if Germany win, we could likely play Serbia. I'd rather that than Ghana.

Ghana it is. We almost had a shot at Australia. We just manhandled them not too long ago. But realistically, Ghana only scares me because every team scares me on account of our nonexistent defense.

Our D played better today. Hopefully the extra rest gets Onyewu on track.

Looking at the bracket for the knockout round so far, the US' side of the draw doesn't have the heavyweights (at least in terms of traditional powers) that the other side does. On the US side of the bracket so far, it's Uruguay vs S Korea and USA vs Ghana....the other side has Argentina vs Mexico and Germany vs England.

I really like South Korea. I'm a fan of the country. I've enjoyed their style of play and they have a few really skilled players. I'd much rather play Uruguay I think. They may be better than the Koreans, but nothing has really stood out for them.

I don't care who we play in the next round as long as we are IN the next round.

+1. But to be honest I'd rather see the US play South Korea (IF the were to advance). Uruguay's tandem of Diego Forlan and Luis Suarez scare the crap out of me! Especially w/ our defense not performing that well.

They need to be scared of us...Donovan,Dempsey,Altidore and even Bradley. I have been pleasantly suprised by Bradley's play. The ball seems to follow him.

If there is ever a year for the US to be able to win a World Cup this is it. The traditional powers are either down or completely out. It's still a long shot with the way we've been starting so slow, but who's left? Argentina and Brazil seem like they're the only elite teams left. I just wish we were playing at a higher level ourselves.

So BOTH finalists in 2006's World Cup failed to even make it to the round of 16.. this has been a really crazy tournament so far and I gotta say that I'm enjoying it very much!

Great videos, 01.

I have been trying to get a hold of Sly Tetteh for some background on Saturday's Ghana-USA showdown but my emails have all been bouncing. For those unaware, Sly played for LU back in the day and then returned home to Ghana to form his own professional team to compete in Ghana's national league. Fresh from Lynchburg, he named the team the Liberty Professionals. He quickly shook up the landscape of soccer in his nation and is now influential in the soccer community across Africa. Some of you may have heard of some of his finds including Michael Essian. The national team is littered with players he discovered before they headed to lucrative contracts in Europe.

For three decades, LU & Ghana have had a terrific connection. My first LU soccer memories are of Paul Annan in goal and fellow WLBU air personality Edward Tetteh scoring practically at will. The players have continued to come over from Ghana practically non-stop ever since leaving an indelible mark on our program and school.

Consequently I have been pulling for Ghana throughout the qualifying process and in South Africa as well. Obviously that will cease this weekend.

I have been hoping to find out if the feuding Boateng brothers on the Ghana National Team are related to our recent grad Joshua Boateng. I also am curious if the Annan on the team is related to Paul. Accra is a very large African city so who knows.

I would love to be able to combine 4 or more of these videos on a single screen and sync them, but I'm not that big of a tech geek.

By the way, Landon Donovan said in an interview this morning that he stayed up late last night looking at videos like this on youtube. I thought that was cool.

ESPN's already edited one of their commercials and put in the two goals from Donovan. Thought that was pretty cool.
