If you want to talk ASUN smack or ramble ad nauseum about your favorite pro or major college teams, this is the place to let it rip.

ASUN also making membership announcement tomorrow morning. I'm still asking around. 3 guesses in order of likelihood because i'm bored.

Campbell- makes the most sense since they are already in the conference.
Jacksonville- They wanted to go scholly in football before but it was an epic fail. who knows maybe they had major donations since then?
Stetson- Least likely but still a possibility.

Personally I burned out on this thread after thinking we were going FBS, waiting for the inevitable announcement, then watching coastal move up on a whim.

Yeah, that's sort of the point of this thread. I'm not sure how any of these rumors moves LU closer to FBS. When that happens this thread will explode

Unless Jerry JR has his way and shuts it down.

If this is some form of merger - and it's looking like it is - here's my concern:

With the Big South, you have one school committed to financing football (Liberty), an affiliate that will finance it (Monmouth), and three schools who don't care (CSU, GWU, PC). On top of that, you have Campbell who hasn't wanted to add scholarships.

With the ASun, you have one school committed to financing football (KSU) and two that hasn't wanted to add scholarships (Jacksonville, Stetson).

Combine them together and you have:

Two full time members committed to financing (Liberty, KSU)
An affiliate committed to financing (Monmouth)
Six schools that want to do things on the cheap (CSU, GWU, PC, Campbell, Stetson, Jacksonville)

Everyone knows Monmouth is out the first opportunity they get something better (see: Stony Brook).

Everyone know Liberty is out the first opportunity they get something better (see: #FBSReady).

Everyone assumes KSU is out the first opportunity they get something better (see: logic).

My fear becomes why wouldn't they cater to the schools who are going to be sticking around?

Also: Kallander.

Yet schools that do things on the cheap continue to beat us in major sports.

I'm very curious how this plays out. I feel like both conferences are in survival mode right now and football will not be the top priority. No facts to back it up just common sense.

“current or future Atlantic Sun Conference scholarship-football members within the geographic footprint of the Big South will automatically be admitted to the conference as associate football members.”
On the one hand that's a lot more boring than I expected. On the other, at least my fears didn't come to fruition.

Does this mean that football-playing programs at Campbell, Stetson and Jacksonville must join Big South Football?

No. Campbell, Stetson and Jacksonville are currently non-scholarship football programs. They have no obligation to change their current status as Pioneer Football League members. This agreement does, however, ensure that the ASUN institutions as well as Campbell -- should they elect to begin participation in scholarship football sometime in the future, will have a guaranteed conference home as they would automatically become members of Big South Football.

soooo... still trying to figure out how this helps

ABOUT BIG SOUTH CONFERENCE FOOTBALL
The Big South Conference is in its 15th season of football in 2016 and has been a mainstay on the FCS national landscape since receiving an automatic bid in 2010.  The league has made three consecutive quarterfinal appearances in the FCS playoffs, had the nation’s No. 1-ranked program in 2014 and 2015, and has collected five wins over FBS opponents.  In addition, a Big South football member has been nationally-ranked in the Top 25 polls for the last 67 consecutive weeks – including inside the Top 10 in 40 of the last 42 weeks.  A total of 12 former Big South student-athletes appeared on NFL rosters to start the 2016 campaign, including Pro Bowlers Justin Bethel, Mike Tolbert and Josh Norman.

I think this opens the door for the A-Sun to have a little more leverage when trying to woo potential D2 teams (North Alabama, West Georgia, etc) that the Big South may not have interest in as full sports members...now the A-Sun can offer them a football home, which would also help the Big South in keeping the football #s up.

That is indeed the point, WEF. Otherwise this is all just to make Kennesaw State football feel better. It doesn't appear to mean much else. Nobody new is joining or switching any league.
