While I agree in general, I still think it will be decided by who exits.

I honestly believe C-USA may now be more likely for us than the Sun Belt IF dominoes really start falling. But we need the Big XII to add more than BYU & UH for anything significant to happen.

Who are their other prospects at this point? If they take anyone, we will be in the mix practically be default. No one else likely will have the cash or the interest in CUSA at that stage. It will cost Sun Belt schools a cool $4M in exit & entrance fees to transition to a league with no better TV payouts and a roster of schools that lacks much gravitas ... especially if schools like Rice, Southern Miss or Marshall are gone. Frankly I think they just contract because they won't have the financial incentives to add teams at this stage should a few schools depart. Texas State is likely the only Sun Belt school interested and that is just to align themselves with more Texas schools. The dynamics have shifted dramatically in the past 12 months. CUSA has not benefited from any of those developments.

The pressure on the Big XII from ESPN & Fox to add no one or just two is apparently very intense. My contacts in Austin have no clue what is going to happen. Don't rule out the possibility that the league postpones any decision for a few months pushing the transition back a year to Fall 2018. Supposedly no candidate has enough support with league presidents including BYU & Houston.

I doubt either happens but I'd be more surprised with a Sunbelt invite than I would be with a CUSA invite.

I'm with you on this. The SBC has pretty much told LU no thank you in every way possible. LU would come with a quasi blank slate with ODU as an advocate to CUSA. Personally I'm a fan of going where I'm wanting than trying to prove to someone I'm worthy. But that's me

Any scenario where BYU is not involved increases the odds of enough dominoes falling to be of note. BYU being selected helps no one looking to move to a better league. In fact, them not being selecting would probably enhance any legal challenges we might have down the road toward FBS independent status. Yeah, I know.

It will be interesting to see how that affects BYU's membership chances. If it keeps them out, when they are clearly a top choice, it will not bode well for us.

Liberty has almost the same wording in their student/faculty conduct as Baylor fwiw.

I think the BYU situation helps Liberty's case for FBS Independent with the NCAA.

I hear all the reasons LU shouldn't go FBS independent and they're all good ones. But if they did and COULD (?) schedule 4 home games against FBS, G5 opponents each one would have a bowl feel to it. Add a Richmond or JMU game and you would have to add seats. I could see us averaging 30,000 plus day one.

Independent status would force us to spend money. A lot of it

Would we finally spend it fast enough?

Ashland Johnson, director of policy and campaigns for Athlete Ally — one of the leading organizations to send the letter — said the crux of the issue is that the BYU honor code does not prohibit heterosexual couples from holding hands or kissing but pinpoints any form of same-sex attraction. She said the goal of the coalition of advocacy groups was to send an emphatic message to BYU that its policies can "come at a cost" — literally.

"North Carolina lost millions of dollars when the NBA All-Star game was taken away and BYU could lose millions of dollars by not joining the Big 12," Johnson said. "The NBA has taken steps forward with the (LGBT) movement. The NCAA has taken steps forward. The Big 12 doesn't need to take a step back here."

If this is what we can expect when we are under serious consideration to be picked up by an FBS conference, we're doomed. That said, if that's the price for FBS admission, it's too high and we should stay put.

Technically the Liberty Way doesn't (or didn't) prohibit same-sex couples from holding hands or kissing...
