They wanted a public school.
Then why don't they just say that.
If the SBC (or any other conference for that matter) were to come right out and say ¨private schools need not apply¨ they would be setting themselves up for potential legal action. They have to be more discreet.

I´d be interested in seeing an example where a SBC official actually said that Purple. We all know it´s true, but I think they have been pretty careful about not exposing themselves to liability

Not really. I've been following this from day 1 of it being mentioned on here. It just makes me  to see that they accepted the beach chickens for the exact same things we have.

So all of you who are butt hurt that we didn't get into the SBC and think it's because we are an evangelical school, what happens if the SBC invites us next year?

Well, we know from what President Falwell said a while back that both were factors:
Two years ago the obstacle we ran into is the Sun Belt is all public universities, every single one of them. And there was a lot of feeling inside the conference that they didn’t want to add any private schools. We needed 9 votes out of 11, and there were 3 Presidents that just couldn’t vote for a private school, a couple of them didn’t like the idea that Liberty was a Christian school. But some of that has changed now.
It would be interesting to know what has changed, but he's playing his cards close to the vest, as I'm sure he should.

When Coastal was added, the President of UT-Arlington called them "a well-rounded, public institution." Go back and read the articles that we linked to in other threads.

I don't think it would be grounds for discrimination, i.e., not inviting us because we are a private school. They have the right to associate with whom they please as long as that right does not infringe upon the rights of a "protected" group. Thus not inviting us because we are a religious school would be a different story.

The Big South is pulling its championship tournaments from Coastal Carolina in the wake of their move to the Sun Belt, and they're not happy about it:
Coastal Carolina officials say that after the university contested the Big South’s initial interpretation of its bylaws – which would have prohibited the Chants from hosting championship games or events in any scenario – there was an understanding that the basketball tournaments would be hosted by the highest seed and that the Chants would still be eligible to host if they earned the top seed. Very quickly, they say, that changed to a scenario that would ensure no opportunity for Coastal Carolina to host the Big South basketball championships, and they are frustrated by the turn of events.

Coastal is annoyed by this, and many of their fans are saying it's sour grapes, but this decision had to be made. You can't have your signature event (men's and women's basketball championships) at a school that is leaving. It's not a good look for the league.

I agree with Super. It had to be done. As a media member I did like the tournament in Myrtle though even though it has proven to be a solid home court advantage for Coastal. However Liberty did knock them off in the 1st round on it's way to an improbable Tournament Championship win the 1st year it was there. They haven't lost a tournament game there since.

I am not available to go to the Big South Tournament anymore but it would be cool to see it back in Lynchburg. I don't think it will happen though no matter how good the Liberty bid will be. (So glad I don't have to deal with all that garbage anymore).

Since some people got their panties bunched up about College Gameday going to JMU, here's a little article from the Richmond fishwrap about JMU to FBS:

http://www.richmond.com/sports/college/ ... 2dc3f.html
Has JMU passed on an opportunity to join an FBS league and if so, which one?

“Not going to get into that. Not going to talk about specific leagues, and I’m not going to talk about speculation on where we think there might be future opportunity. All I would say is that the best thing that JMU can do is continue to win at a high level and graduate kids at a high level. If you do that, you pretty much live your mission and you put yourself in a position for when opportunities come along, you can take advantage of them. How we take care of our business today will dictate to a large degree what our options are in the future.”

Yes. That statement does reek of common sense

I believe epic fail would be an appropriate term for the results of that "walkout"

Yea, I'm surprised Fox46 ran it. No one claim the post either.

Not sure what type of impact this will have on future FBS re-shuffling, but C-USA's new boss is a woman with major private school credentials.
CUSA News Release wrote:Judy MacLeod Named Conference USA Commissioner
Becomes League’s Third Commissioner; First Female FBS Leader

Oct. 26, 2015

IRVING, Texas – After a national search conducted by the international search firm Korn Ferry, Conference USA Board of Directors Chair and Old Dominion president John R. Broderick has announced the unanimous selection of Judy MacLeod as the third Commissioner of Conference USA. With her appointment, she becomes the first female commissioner of a Football Bowl Subdivision athletics conference.

“Judy earned all of our respect and admiration during the many years she served as associate commissioner,” Broderick said. “She is well-respected nationally and will be a strong voice for the conference on issues regarding the many important challenges and opportunities facing intercollegiate athletics. The Board of Directors and the Search Committee are delighted she will now lead us.”

MacLeod has been with C-USA since September 2005, and served as the Executive Associate Commissioner and Chief Operating Officer since April 2006. She took over the role as Interim Commissioner on Sept. 15, when Britton Banowsky officially stepped down from the position.

I was thinking Liberty played Tulsa during her time as AD there. After looking it up, I realized it was Toledo.

Anyone know her thoughts about LU ?

Her thoughts about LU are pretty much irrelevant. You would think having the conference commissioner on your side would be a big deal for a program seeking membership. It´s not. If it were up to Benson, we would be in the Sun Belt right now.

Her former boss Banowsky seemed to be OK with us as well. Her feelings may not be crucial to our potential opportunities, but they have some relevance.
