Howard had no shot to save that goal. I blame him for the last goal far more than letting up the first one.
He had no shot to save it because he was sitting on the ground sticking his legs up in the air. I'm not saying he definitely makes the save, but Nani basically had an open goal in front of him.
Wasn't as wide open as the net Bradley was shooting at........and missed

In that situation, the goalkeeper must cover low and hope for the best. There is a better chance of the opposing player shooting over the net than the keeper saving the shot. The chance for a save is tiny.

Howard is the best player on our team. He knows what he's doing.

This? http://soccer.fusion.net/2014/06/20/mex ... bic-chant/

Or did I just miss the obvious and beat BJ to the punch...
No I honestly didn't know. I caught the announcers talking about it but missed most of it acting like I was paying attention to my boss :D

It sounds really cool.

Cameron and Bedoya taking a seat for this one. It'll be good to see what Brad Davis can do for us.

Bradley had several bad touches during the first half. Need to stay focused and hope Portugal keeps the lead.

If this game had any significance for Germany, that would have been a slaughter. It's bad enough that they are far superior to the US, but when you play so sloppy and no one on the team can manage to hold onto the ball or make a clean pass....
And can the media please stop with the "group of death", it never was in the first place. The group had two good teams, and one of them didn't show up. There were at least two other groups that were tougher than ours.

But, Belgium is up next. As bad as we're playing, I actually think it's a winnable game. Belgium has numerous star players, but their play has just been okay so far, and they're not nearly as complete or clinical as Germany. Should be a fun game.

100% agree. There were flashes where Germany showed what they can really do. Germany playing at maximum effort would have scored at least 3x today. The US is exhausted and they have looked that way throughout the tournament thus far. Definitely should invest in a new strength and conditioning staff in the off season.

It's the toughest group of death. Ghana would have advanced in Groups B or D, which are widely considered the next groups of death. Their bonehead plays today unraveled them. Nevertheless, they have been competitive in every match even though they are collapsing off the pitch.

Sorry. Well they always have an Auntie Annies.

We have better dining options at both of our Houston airports. But that is of little consolation after leaving DFW.

He had nowhere to go but up. And he didn't improve much.

SJ - Be glad you saw the half you did.

I'll always enjoy the World Cup, no matter who's playing, and I'm glad the US is advancing. Yet despite us moving on, this one has been more of a let-down than others. There has been no evolution in our game. In fact, our style of play seems to have regressed (I feel like we're watching 2006 usmnt). I get we've had injuries, but are we that dependant on one guy who isn't even dominant or consistant? Jurgen's a good coach, but it's like he's gone back to default mode just to avoid elimination. There were two things people thought Jurgen might do to move us forward, bring a more German style of play, or infuse more latin players to bring us closer to that style of play. He started off recruiting more latin players, and we did start to play different, but that kind of fizzled out. Now we have a bunch of half-Germans, and while they're our best players, they play like typical Americans. Nothing has changed, and that's just really disappointing.

I'll disagree with that.

The evolution in our game shows in our ability to play three teams in three entirely different tactical fashions and still hold up. The evolution shows in the fact that we can still compete at a high level even when our primary attacker's skill set cannot be replaced. And last I checked, we didn't look all that great in 2010, when we were gifted a fantastic draw including the always overrated England.

We advanced out of a group with three high quality teams and even played Ghana prior to their usual African Nation Implosion. All of this while being incredibly sloppy in the center of the field. Not to mention, I don't know how many of our attacking chances have come off of the counter. Say hello to Germany's SOP.

Klinsmann has made some fantastic in-game adjustments, and the only real issue is whether Michael Bradley should still be playing. His 2nd touch is a tackle. Of course, you have to let him play through it, but man has he had a disappointing world cup. Of the 50 players with the most attempted passes, he is 41st in pass completion %.

Wow... In reference to a previous post of yours, I'm pretty sure Germany was giving it their all through the first 70 minutes of the game. They did slow down some after that but they were still pressing, which is why Bedoya was open on the left side of the German 18 yd line in the circa 83rd minute of the game when the US challenged in the middle of the field and pressed up-field quickly. If Bedoya had shot the ball near post he very likely might have had a goal. Once that fleury of action ended with Dempsey's near header - the game settled down for the end as both teams were happy to move on. Yesterday's game was proof positive of Germany's skill and depth, two things the US can't quite match them on. But to say the US team is taking a step backwards, in my name, is ridiculous. And to say Group G was not the group of death is equally as wrong. Ghana very nearly beat an awesome German side. Yes... Portugal did not show up quite as well as they are on paper, but they are still a quality side and we did control that game. And no... we don't rely on one player only, but when that one player occupies what might be the most important position on the field and he doesn't perform up to snuff... yes... it hurts. It would hurt ANY team.
