Talk about a PR nightmare. I can read the headlines now. "Falwell's football team provides refuge for gay bashing running back."

I don't think so.

But..................................... he did average 7 yards a carry over 3 seasons with the Herd.

Apparently he was ignored because of his size and frame. The pass in the video from the article below shows a QB with a beautiful touch on the ball...

Wow, that is a shocker. Even though he played on the States JV squad, I thought he was one of the better QB's I saw during the Bowl games

After his fellow squad member "Reached out to LU"(as Gill explained it), for a 2nd chance you would think Butler is probably contemplating the same thing. If he hasn't already!?!?!? Groomes made multiple mistakes and was still given a 3rd or 4th chance. Sounds like this Butler kid only has 1 strike against him(but.......modern America will probably make this kid look worse than a murder for this crime).

A couple things to consider at this point (since we have been down this road before):

1) Does he even want to come here? It really doesn't matter one whit how good he is, if he doesn't want to be here (which is his prerogative), we aren't going to get him
2) If he DOES want to be here, how would it affect the backs we currently have? Des and DJ and Todd all went through the spring here. How would it affect the dynamic to have another back come in in the fall and battle for the tailback job and wasn't here in the spring (2015 signees excepted of course)? As I said with the Grooms situation, is he automatically better than who we have in the fold simply because he is from an FBS school?

The whole thing seems odd. If the 2 guys liked each other enough to kiss why on earth did the one guy video tape his man friend being beat up? Wouldn't it make more sense to try and stop Butler?
You'll have to ask the man that. Maybe they were outnumbered, maybe he was afraid of getting beat up too, who knows??? Regardless, they are not responsible for Butler's actions, only Butler himself.

Part of me also wonders if the quotation marks around "hate crime," would've been added had it been a white man attacking a black one (or vice versa), or a Muslim attacking a Christian (again, or vice versa)? Would some of you still be wanting/making jokes about him coming here then?

PH - I get your comment and agree that it is Orwellian. The government established the concept of "hate crimes," in order to try and control people's thoughts/actions towards others and those that are different.

Grooms was better than who we had. He was just a problem.

Good on Gill for holding Grooms to the high standard. He would have been a game changer this year.

ATrain , your reaching. I dont see any one making jokes about the situation.

Most crimes are not done because of love. Plus, I'm not a fan of the Governmenttelling me what is or is t different. They are not exactly a benevolent entity themselves.

People don't beat up other people because they like them.

This is true, but if the dude Butler beat had been kissing a woman, would Butler have still beaten him up? Some crimes are committed b/c of the actions or possessions of others (slept w/ significant other, owns an expensive item of clothing or jewelry), some are committed just b/c the person doesn't like something about the other person (sexual orientation, color of skin, religion, etc...).

If I caught someone sleeping with my wife, that would be something I don't like about them

Yeah, but that would be based on an action they committed, not an intrinsic difference from you.

I may not like someone who is intrinsically different than me, but it doesn't mean I beat them up. And if I get my AZ kicked does it really matter if I am intrinsically different or not? I still got my AZ kicked. People should by judged by their actions.

You don't beat them up, no. This athlete, on the surface (facts are still coming out), apparently did. Both actions and intent deserve to be judged.

If this kid somehow is free for the taking I sure hope we don't lunge at him. I believe in second chances absolutely, but can you imagine the headlines?? We get accused enough of being gay bashers... despite having turned a corner to some degree in recent times.

The irony is that "hate crimes" punish people who are supposedly intrinsically different instead of just focusing on the action they committed. LOL.

For the record, violence is violence, regardless of who it is committed against. I've seen people pick fights with people because they are tall, short, fat, skinny, rich, poor. It would be great if violence in general was just treated as abhorrent.
