I'm sure it didn't exactly make headlines in Virginia, but a couple of South Texas colleges have merged to create what is now the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley. Adios UT-Pan Am & UT-Brownsville (originally Texas Southmost). the UT-Pan Am AD is leading the combined school and he spent some time in the Late '90s working in the LU Athletic Department.
And for those scratching their head at name Vaqueros, it is the Spanish term for cowboys. It is very appropriate for South Texas. The school remains a member of what is left of the WAC. The Southland has zero interest in welcoming them in.
