It's hard to compare a multi-purpose domed stadium to a baseball field built in 1914. That's like saying Fenway is insignificant compared to the Superdome. Apples and oranges.

I liked Fenway when I was there for a couple of games. I enjoy Wrigley more. But you are right, these would be the 2 stadiums to compare each other too. I hope they both stay up for a long long time

Let's face it, Wrigley is a nice place to take your shirt off in the sun and pass some time. It is not exactly packed with great significant memories beyond Bartman for most of America.
:BS you are just looking at this years number. Up until the last 2 years they topped over 3 million annually for 8 years. It's also the only other ball park not named after a team that people automatically associate a team with (Fenway being the other)
Plus the Bears played there till 1970.
No significance? Ivy covered walls? The Bleachers? Harry Carey? Ernie Banks? Yeah, no one knows about those things.
And you are right it is a PERFECT place to take your shirt off in the sun and pass a beautiful sunny Chicago afternoon. Could you do that in the Astrodome.....without getting arrested?

Oh, don't forget Old Style :D
all losing memories.

Name the top 5 events at Wrigley and see how many would crack the top ten of the Astrodome. Good luck. Plenty of great times had by the fans but a ridiculously short list of significant moments. And yes, I will acknowledge 80-year-old football games since the question is open-ended since the non-football & non-baseball events at the Astrodome would also be in play.
Babe Ruth's called shot
Kerry Wood's 20 strikeout game
The Homer in the Gloamin
The day my grandpa and my dad took me to my first game..in the same stadium where my dad's grandpa took him to see his first game
The day my grandpa, dad, and I took my son to his first game...and he got to run the bases while I stood at home plate waiting for him

glen allen hill's hr on top of the roofs was better than the homer in the gloamin.

still, none of those things matter enough to keep the house of embarrassing losing standing.

If new stadiums guaranteed success the Red Sox would never win a World Series and Miami would be back to back champs

And Liberty would be in the playoffs

it has nothing to do with curses, or some aura of losing that emanates from the park. Its all about safety, modernization, and revenue. all of which have been crumbling the last few years. does a new park give us more of a chance of winning? not from an intangible side because all that is rubbish. (to parrot idiot hawk "the will to win") But from a revenue side absolutely. keep wrigley up. let kids run around the bases so their parents can ball like a baby, whatever. regardless of winning or losing, the wrigley experience is growing tired and sad. will winning change it? its possible but lets get real here. if we aren't going to put a winning product on the field, at least let me not pee in a trough and have more food choices than subpar pizza and hotdogs.

Peeing in a trough is totally part of the experience
There are ways they can 'Modernize' the experience with out it losing its charm. You are spot on about the food. They need a signature item ( I.e. Dodger Dog) They can also make several changes within the Stadium itself that don't involve tearing it down. The Big Video Board is a nice option but there has to be a way to do it that will keep SOME of the roof top seats, again, a great part of the experience. There are just a lot of things they CAN do to modernize the game day experience but my fear is ownership is so Gung-ho on trying to get a new stadium they won't do those things first. Its a goose and golden egg issue

you can modernize what they have now, but to be honest, they are going to have to eventually tear down some of it because its literally falling apart. in the end you still have one of the smallest ball parks in mlb with one of the biggest fan bases....it doesn't make sense. the rooftop owners shot themselves in the foot. i couldn't care less to ever see a rooftop again. I'm happy with alot of the changes proposed so for now, i'm done waiving the torch.

most of the crying going on in the stadium is because of the miserable baseball team and 3rd world conditions not because your kid is running around the bases.

Some is a lot different then all. But one thing is for sure if they make these changes and don't put a winner on the field it's going to get worse
