I think it would take more than one stat to shift the vote in one direction...and as I said, the fact that the Angels did not make or contend for the playoffs hurts as well

WAR isn't a perfect stat, but it's a better gauge of overall player performance than the traditional counting stats.

It really depends on which camp you fall in, the Sabermetrics camp or the traditionalists...even if you did fall to the SABR side, Trout's numbers would have to be, as I said before, positively earth shattering if not record breaking for him to win the MVP since he was on a non-contending team. A lot of your MVP voters are from the old school group, and many of them will probably recall the Andre Dawson MVP of 1987 and because Trout's "counting statistics" are not that good, won't vote him #1

I agree that the a lot of writers won't vote for him. I'm in the SABR camp, so he's my pick. Either way, my vote doesn't count.

Im pretty traditional but even factoring SABR numbers, if your traditional numbers are not really eye popping, you wont see guys like Trout or Bryce Harper or other young guns get a lot of MVP nods...or even vets who have seasons that by SABR standards are resurgent

My point is that no matter who it is, if you dont have your numbers like hits, HRs RBI, batting average, etc on point and your team doesnt make the playoffs, you could have a great WAR or BABIP or whatever other Sabermetrics numbers, the votes just arent gonna be there. Its not gonna happen til you have a greater numnber of SABR-friendly voters over the traditionalists

I'm not arguing with you. I think the writers will give it to Cabrera. If I was a voter, I'd give it to Trout.

Yep, it's about that time of year for the Tiger's offense to go run and hide for the postseason, which sucks because their bullpen is terrible, once again. You'd think they'd get that fixed.

So, the World Series is going on. Remember when people around here cared about such things. Me too.

its unfortunately so ho hum. its hard to stretch out excitement over almost 4 hours. the redsox have some level of interest. they have interesting players.

but the cardinals are jsut a bunch of boring dopes who along with the braves act as the unofficial hypocrytical baseball police and are about as much fun as watching cspan.

Plus baseball season ends too late in the year. They start the World Series about a week after the season should be over
