But leaves walk-ons and team managers on the court. Does their safety not matter as much as Harrison Barnes then? Why not take them all back to the locker room if he was so concerned about the safety of his team?

You then run into forfeit issues etc. and your avg FSU fan is more likely to do something stupid to Harrison Barnes then Steve from Henderson, NC
It was actually Leonard Hamiltons idea. Thought it was a class move by both. Plus gave Roy more time to yell at his starters!

False. It was later revealed that Roy brought up the idea to a referee first and then Leonard Hamilton. Hamilton then suggested Roy do it. It was Roy's idea all along. I don't disagree with the intent, I most definitely disagree with Roy abandoning team members like that, it's a complete bush league maneuver.

Also, he could have told the five walk-ons to stay on the court until the ball is inbounded then run to the locker room. Refs can't stop a game because players walk off the court in the middle of play.

I was just going by what the announcers had said during the game.
And unless they have changed the rule back, your suggestion would have resulted in Technical fouls against UNC for leaving the playing floor for unauthorized reasons. It used to be leave and come back (think the play years ago when a kid ran out one door and back in another) but the rule was changed after a fight in the stands at one of our local colleges actually.

Thanks for the clarification. I think a few points is worth preventing the chance of one of your players being trampled by idiot fans.

You are missing the 'point'. There needs to be players on the floor to finish the game unless they were going to forfeit. Better to have Steve from Asheville in the game then a lottery pick. Plus, the fans would be more likely to leave them alone then the big time stars.

I understand why he did it as one of the team's managers was injured at UNLV earlier this year when they rushed the court. I don't have an issue with that. The only error he made was to not stay out there with the remaining 5.

Turns out Roy intended for his entire team to leave early & had no idea that "Blue Steel" stayed behind until he watched the video.
Williams said he waited outside his locker room for all of the players, and when it took a while for Holladay and on walk-on Patrick Crouch to arrive, Williams asked Holladay what took Crouch so long. “And he said, ‘He got caught up in the crowd,’ and I didn’t know what the crap he was talking about.”

“I am watching the tape of the game, and it’s the first time the I realized the Blue Steel guys stayed out there on the court,’’ Williams said. “Every prospect, every walk-on I have ever had -- if I eat steak, you’re going to eat steak; whatever happens to every scholarship player, you have to do. I would never leave five kids out there. If I was going to do that, why wouldn’t I stay out there? I saw it happen one time on TV, and I thought, ‘Why would they leave those kids out there?’”

Williams, during his show, also expressed his anger towards a local radio talk show that implied Kirschner was spinning the story when he called in to explain the miscommunication that led to the five players remaining on the court.

Later, he reiterated: “There’s no way in Hades I would leave five of my guys out there.”

i don't even care that HE didn't stay on the court. as long as he left someone to watch over them and that person was fine with it, then WHO CARES? no wonder espn is such a worthless station the majority of people sensationalize every trivial story thats out there.
