High school notebook: Rocco hired at Covenant

Former Staunton River football coach Dave Rocco, who spent the past two seasons as defensive coordinator at Jefferson Forest, is the new head coach at Covenant, a Virginia Independent Conference school in Charlottesville.

The former Penn State linebacker who served as a graduate assistant under Joe Paterno, plans to call offensive plays for the Eagles. He may not have the opportunity to coach against his brother Frank Rocco, since Covenant no longer plays Liberty Christian Academy after losing to the Bulldogs 57-0 in 2009.
