Someone mentioned concussions earlier. MOST like more than 50% of the concussions aren't even caused by the hit itself. Its caused by the players head hitting the ground (which is not gonna give) during the back lash. What people don't understand is that these helmets can only do so much. The problem is that the players are bigger faster stronger and most of all dumber. They don't lead with their shoulder they don't know how to tackle. With the team I'm currently working for we've had 6 concussions this year. ALL of them were because idiots were leading with the crown of your head. and driving the reciever or back into the ground. I'll place the blame on coaches for this one. Coach a kid in high school and college how to tackle correctly and the concussion problem will diminish drastically.

helmet to helmet hits have to go...leading with your head have to go. i hope this makes it happen. leading with your helmet is terrible technique and while you see many injuries to wr's because of it, you also see alot of long runs by wr's because of it. you are taught to always be looking at your opponent. leaving your feet with your head down is not a proper way to tackle.

people whine about the wussification of the nfl as if we should go back to smelling salts and walking it off. talk to some of the older wr's who stutter and can't do everyday normal things about whether these rules are warranted.

if the nfl had been able to keep this all quiet, none of us fans would of noticed a drop off in nfl play. players are still going to lay people out. people that think this is gay aren't really thinking about what they'd feel if it was their kid out on the field takign a headshot.

It used to be that coaches denied their players water. It made for harder practices and toughened the players up right? Oh except you need water to live. HS kids were dying and then of course Korey Stinger brought it to the forefront of people's mind and pretty much every coach in the country has built in mandatory water breaks. Oh the wussification. Bear Bryant didn't give his players water breaks. Now those were men I guess.

Ding ding ding! And here's exhibit A:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5708701
Miami Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder says the only way of preventing helmet-to-helmet hits is to eliminate the helmet.
Otherwise he's going to use his, regardless of punishment from league officials.
"If I get a chance to knock somebody out, I'm going to knock them out and take what they give me," Crowder said Wednesday. "They give me a helmet, I'm going to use it."

There's particular concern about helmet hits, but many players are unhappy about the crackdown. That includes Crowder, who said concussions are a normal part of the game.
He thinks he gets one every week and often keeps playing.
"If I'm knocked out, I don't know where I'm at, I can't say my name, now I can't play football," he said. "If I get hit in the head and black out for a second and now I get back up dizzy, OK, I'm ready to go."

yes SOME players are stupid. This is still not a reason to fine EVERY player! Harrison shouldn't have been fined for the 2 hits in the Cleveland game because they were legal hits. It is natural to tense up and tuck your head and brace for impact when you are about to get hit. Why punish a defender who is mid tackle and the guy ducks and braces himself and the defensive player hits his helmet or facemask. That is not a defensive players fault. It will be interesting to watch Sunday and see what they deem flagrant or dangerous

um its pretty obvious that the cribs hit was helmet to helmet. their helmets are the first to make contact, harrison puts his head down and SPEARS cribs which is illegal and has been since i was a kid. same with the jackson/robinson hit. i'm good with the massaquoi hit thats pretty much all shoulder.

still its bad technique to be leading with your head. harrison is already a retard...probably because thats how hes tackled his entire life.

Thoughts on the Austin Collie hit?

IMO that was a completed catch and a fumble. Not an illegal hit. Refs and the NFL are about to ruin the league.

I agree. The hit was legal. Collie put his head down and the result was not the defender's fault.

They should be able to review those. It looked like helmet to helmet by the defender but really he was driven into the helmet by a clean hit by another player.

It was impossible to see in real time.

It's the NFL, not the refs. They are only doing what their employer tells them to do.

You'll see some "questionable" calls in college basketball this year regarding an elbow. It is no longer a common foul, but either intentional or flagrant. You're going to see refs err on the side of calling it too much than not enough. It's a lot better to do it that way. These refs in the NFL are doing the same thing.

It was just an incorrect call. They happen every game. Not a big deal.
