I think most Lynchburgers know why that is. But many of them (HMO) will never admit it.
Why all the cryptic remarks? Some of us are clueless, just say it.

I thought it was obvious. Rachel Flynn was run out of town by Jerry and took the job in Richmond about 5 years ago. She's their city planner/developer and has been fighting downtown Richmond businesses that entire time.

JMU fans are like VT fans....always yapping at how great they are and their stadium atmosphere...at least JMU can say they actually won a national championship....anyway, Robins Stadium is perfect for UR. the old city stadium was a dump and only when the spiders played JMU or W&M was the place packed.

Easy there big guy. The real difference is that VT has 68K going nuts, which can be, and usually is louder than any 100k stadium. VT can back up what they proclaim. JMU is a joke, even with a NC.

Apparently I missed the last time VT won a NC

As far as actual volume is concerned, supposedly Oregon has the loudest recorded volume in decibles. I think a lot of that has to do with the configuration of the stadium. I think the consenus is that the most intimidating overall home field atmosphere is a night game at LSU.

I've been to a slew up of the big boys and I am shocked PastorZack hasn't chimed in about Kyle Field. It is ridiculously loud. The same can be said of the Horseshoe in Columbus. The stadiums where the upper decks lean out almost to the field and funnel the sound tend to be the loudest IMHO. Frankly, once you reach a certain level of noise I have a tough time distinguishing the difference. Then again, i am partially deaf from my days in Lynchburg as a DJ a quarter century ago.

uh "big guy"...VT has a nice atmosphere no question..best in the ACC. however it's the ACC. their crowds do not compare to the top SEC or Big 12 schools and as olld says oregon's atmosphere is very loud. but again JMU acts much like VT in how they claim to be so great, but in actuality, JMU has not been a national power that long, however they do have a national championship...VT, keep winning the very mediocre ACC and tout how great your crowds are..lol. but back to the topic UR's stadium is perfect for them and ten times better than the old city stadium.

I don't know if you've been in many of the 100k seat stadiums, but Lane isn't as loud as them. Tech is a great place to watch football, don't get me wrong; but Tennessee, Michigan, LSU, and on occasion Alabama are all louder.
I understand completely the craziness of 100k stadiums... not downplaying them. But Lane is constantly being compared to the top 10 in the nation for loudest places to play, year in and year out.

I agree that JMU is retarded to think just because they won a NC they have one of the best college football atmospheres... just look at the topic at hand, Richmond. Not exactly the craziest fan base.

And it should be noted that VT won at Kyle Field in the nearly a decade ago, handing the Aggies their first home loss to a non-conference opponent in many years.

between here and the caazone you sure do spend a lot of your day hating on JMU. IMO our game day atmosphere is very impressive at the FCS level. consistently getting about 16,000 into our stadium with another 10k or so out in the parking lots tailgating on gameday. Our stadium is loud and our students are abusive to visitors, isn't that how college football is supposed to be?

Richmond's stadium is nice, should make for a nice and quiet saturday afternoon in the fall.

it should make for a good game and enviroment. one of the JMU posters just posted some pics from inside the new section, showing some of the sightlines and concourse views that we haven't seen before on the in-stadium construction thread over on the caazone.com. you guys should check it out.
