Even with all of the talented, promising football players who have come out of Culpeper, Martz said there was always something that set Kent Hicks apart.
“He was easily one of the most talented athletes to ever come through Culpeper,” Martz said. “Out of everyone else, he probably had the best chance of going on to the next level and beyond.”
Hicks recorded at least 100 tackles in each of his three seasons as a varsity starter at CCHS, and it’s numbers like those that earned him a first team all-decade selection as a defensive back.
Hicks played safety, quarterback, wide receiver, punter, tailback and kick returner, earning three all-region nods and one all-state selection 2002-04.
After an unsuccessful stint at Virginia Tech, Hicks transferred to Liberty University, where he quickly became a starter at cornerback and one of the team’s defensive leaders.
According to Martz, Hicks is now trying to earn a tryout for the Arena 2 Football League and the Canadian Football League.
