Stony Brook has no designs on bolting from its associate membership in the Big South.

The Long Island, N.Y.-based school is under contract to compete in the league in football only through 2011. A new deal has not been reached, but the sides have started negotiations and could extend their marriage of convenience, which allowed the Big South to earn an automatic bid into the FCS playoffs.

SJ is 100% correct. They may have visions of grandeur but they don't have what it takes to step up. There best shot for a better situation than their Big South association for an opening in the CAA. Fot that to happen, there would have to be much bigger issues afoot.

In other words, should a Big South school step up to FBS after the moratorium ends the league may need SBU to hang onto their long sought after auto bid. Just some food for thought.

Or the America East could start football at some point. It's just something that's been talked about on Championshipsubdivision.com, which is the only reason why I mention it.

However, I am happy to have Stony Brook in our conference, and if by some miracle (NOTE the words "if by some miracle,") they're able to step up to FBS after the moratorium ends, they could be another school to align with in our often dreamed of conference of LU, ODU, JMU, App State, etc...
