I guess that's on the classier side of the table. Do you know who it is? I'm thinking about booting him.

It's a made up e-mail address. I could guess who it is, but it would be pure speculation.

I wouldn't be opposed to you booting them. Doesn't matter to me tho.

And just in case you work for the school or athletic department and think you're so special that you're not allowed to play, you can check a box that excludes you from any yahoo prize which makes this legal for you.
Actually, if you use strict liability when following NCAA regulations, it's still illegal for employees in NCAA athletic departments to be in any bracket pool rather money is on the line or not. In fact, even filling out an actual bracket without being in any competition is actually illegal as well. You can still pick games, so long as it's not in bracket format.

Talk with compliance folks. That's what the compliance officer at Lynchburg College said last year when I invited him to join a bracket challenge group on espn. He said the rule still applied this year as well. Unless the rule changed this year and he wasn't aware of it, I assume it would be the same this year.

From what I understand from LU's compliance officer, you are allowed to fill out a bracket just as long as there is no prize b/c with a prize it becomes sports betting and gambling. This is a consistent explanation from what I've heard from other institutions compliance officers on their boards. You may want him to re-check the rules just to be sure he is reading/interpreting it right.

Was that some type of overarching reform in the wake of the Neuheisel fiasco? I admit I've never heard of any problems if no prize was at stake.

actually, one of my friends who works in the athletic department at Washington College referred me to the below just had to talk with the NCAA office because he had to give a presentation to the athletic department about the bracket stuff.
"Student-athletes and administrators may participate, under current NCAA rules, in bracket contests where there is no entry fee but a possibility of winning a prize. Some NCAA member schools, however, have chosen to ban student-athletes from participating in these types of bracket contests."

So basically stuff like ESPN bracket challenge would be legal.

NCAA is always changing rules, especially when it comes to bracket/gambling stuff, so who knows what the rule will be year to year.

I would think every coach in the NCAA would print out a bracket and fill it out even if only some of it to understand future match ups and games of interest.

NCAA coaches players and staff are not supposed to fill them out at all. I got an E-MAIL from the GSU AD before march about it... oops

Maybe that's an institutional rule for GSU, but the NCAA website itself said people can participate as long as they don't put down anything of value on their bracket.

he was basically saying that he doesn't like you enough to join in your bracket game and made up an excuse.

No, not the case, he turns down everyone's invitation. He turned down an invite from his own dad even.

We were told not to join any of the online ones. We asked about family pools where something was on the line (like dinner) and were told not to do that too. We've got a pool together but there was no entry fee and the only prize is bragging rights. That was about as much as we were allowed to do.
