If you want to talk ASUN smack or ramble ad nauseum about your favorite pro or major college teams, this is the place to let it rip.

I remember one time there was talk about them joining the Big South. I wonder if they added these sports to move up to our conference or someone's else.

They have to upgrade their football facilities and add scholarships to join us.

As more schools add LAX as scholarship sports, I wouldn't be surprised to see the league eventually sponsor the sport.

And frankly, now that we are on track for the 2010 football auto bid there shouldn't be much of a push for further expansion unless one of the football schools were likely on the way out. And with the SoCon rebuffing CCU, we are the next most likely school to bolt and that is not happening for a few more years.

As I recall, Stony Brook only has a 4-year contract with the Big South and it was rumored here that there's not much of a buyout penalty should they bail early. Bring on further expansion!

We've already got 10 schools for non-football sports no need to add any more. By the time Stony Brook is out PC will be a full member.

RTF was just factoring in the possibility that Stony Brook might bolt before their contract runs out. That's certainly a factor but not enough of one right now IMHO. Of course a year from now we may all have a different perspective.

Losing Stony Brook would take us down to 6 football-playing members which is the minimum number of teams for an autobid. I don't anticipate any problems but I'd feel a lot better if we had at least one more member for football, even as just an associate.

Looks more interesting since LU is adding women's lacrosse and JU is adding the same sport also

"As more schools add LAX as scholarship sports, I wouldn't be surprised to see the league eventually sponsor the sport. "

The problem with that is that for every D1 school that is adding it, at least two schools are dropping it. The sport is a dying breed at the D1 level as football and basketball are becoming black holes and absorbing all the resources and D1 lacrosse is getting to the point where the amount of resources it needs is beginning to reach that of football and basketball. Just read the reasoning why Hobart decided to go back to D3 for lacrosse and you'll see most of the major reasons for why D1 lacrosse is shrinking as opposed to growing (decision was later reversed due to a bunch of backlash from alumni and whatnot).

LU could join a lacrosse-only league for the sport...Longwood, Howard, Presby, and a few other schools are currently indedepent in women's lacrosse.
