Fans over there seem to be mixed...obviously they recognize that SoCon is better for football but for the other major sport (Basketball) that OVC is better. In other news, University of North Dakota is holding a press conference today about moving up to DI-AA.

Thoughts anyone?

sounds like there's a good chance they move- that theoretically puts the SoCon at 10 and means one of two things:

1. they LIKE the even number and leave everything as is

2. they decide to add not one but 2 or 3 new schools and CCU is a lock.

I'm sorta leaning toward number 2. And based on everything I'm reading- maybe the SoCon IS the better place for CCU to be. It's evidently at least AS GOOD, if not a better fit for them- geographically speaking, and at least they'd get what they've been screaming for.

whether it works out or not- who knows. LU has bigger plans than yet another mid-major and will be looking beyond that in the near future.

The North Dakota announcement was to be expected, especially with the success NDSU and SDSU have had in moving up to D-I.

What will that mean to conference alignment? Depends on what Sacramento State does. The Hornets have long been rumored to be interested in moving either to the WAC or Big West, though with the money Sac State is putting into football facilities, I don't expect Sac to move to a league with no football. Then again, they could move into the Great West for football and have all other sports in the Big West like UC Davis does.

If Sac leaves, then the Big Sky would be much more interested in adding the three Dakota schools to the league. There still is a block with some of the university presidents in that league against the Dakotas, though, mostly because of travel for non-revenue sports. It would get real expensive for volleyball/soccer/track, etc. to have to go out there.

I could see the three Dakota schools going to the Mid-Con for everything and staying Great West for football. I can't imagine the Gateway would want all three schools.

As for UTC to the OVC, it makes a lot of sense geographically. That will be interesting to watch. If UTC bolts, then CCU could get its much coveted invite.

I'd hate to lose what CCU brings to the table, but I won't be sad to see them go. Is it just me, or does the SoCon seem the least stable of any conference? They're like the mob of Rome.
