While such criteria for the decision on this matter may have been flawed, the reason that women's golf was not chosen is because while there was some survey interest for it, not a single young lady interested in golf attended the open meetings. By contrast, an entire team's worth of women's lacrosse athletes showed up decked out in equipment and old jerseys, and others for the other sports that were chosen showed in-person interest.

Like I said, it's a flawed way, some may think. I mean, we introduce the sport and THEN the ladies come in to play it. But the fact remains that the decision was based on response among current students, and there was little-to-none for golf among LU women.

Wouldn't Camp Hydaway -- assuming it still exists -- be the perfect place to house this sport? If so, it makes perfect sense to add equestrian b/c you already have most of what you would need for it -- aside from equestrians, of course.

Camp Hydaway is still there, and they are considering explanding it, including enlarging the lake.

Do students & staff have access to the camp? I used to love fishing there, back when I knew the caretaker.

i'm not sure if we have official access to it or not. i know a lot of people who go to the lake though. there are several stables on up the mountain, i'm sure LU could aquire one or if not they could build one. its not like we don't have any extra land sitting around

There is one on Candler's Mt Rd right now that is for sale and has been for sale for like a year now. But I think if they wanted it, they would have already bought it.

there are 18 DI and 5 DII equestrian programs. The NCAA has stated that a total of 40 DI/II schools must sponsor a a team to have an official championship. here is a link to a site on college equestrian.
