Patrick is given some love by intermat as a wreslter the top seeds don't want to see in the first round. Unfortunately (for the #2 seed or for Patrick dependent upon the outcome) he drew the #2 seed!

um, yeah, how does number 16 get the 2 sedd for nationals in the first round?

HMM... the hate is strong for LU wrestling...

My understanding is they only seed the top 12 and then its a random draw for the rest of the match ups. So, I guess 16 gets 2, literally by the luck of the draw!

That is my understanding as well. But think of it this way ... if he somehow pulls off the upset right out of the gates then it opens the way for him to go deep into the bracket. And at least now he knows his opponent and he can prepare for him.

True-I watched the Ohio State HWT wrestle in the Big Ten championship (thank heavens for the Big Ten network). Both guys seemed content to ride each other out and just hope for an escape point to win it. Patrick is a pretty quick HWT and tends to take smart shots. Plus, the Ohio State HWT was at 197 last year, so he's relatively small. The fact that Patrick hung with the Iowa HWT earlier this year (losing by one I think) should give him some confidence!

Good luck to all of our guys!

yeah, i saw his result with the guy from iowa. i think that will give him a lot of confidence. while he certainly has the toughest draw by far in the first round for the LU guys, i think he also has by far the best chance of upsetting a seeded opponent and yall are right, if he can get by the #2 seed, I thnk he can def go a long ways into the tourney.

hopefully the guys that don't have seeded opponents can all get 1st round wins. maybe LU can take top 30 in the team score, that would be awesome! although with 6 guys in the tournament, I'd say they have a good shot at it.
