All 8 Big South Conference schools will be on campus this time next week competing in the BSC Quiz Bowl tournament that LU has won the past 2 years (8-0 at VMI and 7-1 at Radford). The matches will be played on the first floor of the DeMoss building in rooms 1090, 1101, and 1104 between 9:00- 3:00. BSC Kyle Kallander will be on hand to present the BSC trophy to the tournament champion. LU's varsity team will consist of 4 starters and one alternate:
- Kelly Hamren (capt.)
Zach Curtis
Nick Orta
Robby Mullis
Sara Davis-Leonard (alternate)
Only one player, Zach Curtis, is a returning starter from last year's varsity team, as we lost 3 seniors to graduation--Dallas Shipp, Zach Smith, and Clay Finley. Sadly, Jeff Taylor is ineligible to play in the BSC tournament because he is a graduate student, but he will be eligible to play the regional College Bowl tournament at Virginia Tech later next month.
We encourage all Quiz Bowl fans to attend and wear either your FF t-shirts or your LUanatics t-shirts to support your home team next Saturday.

Bumpity Bump!
Come out and cheer the LU team as it attempts a three-peat on Saturday. Games start at 9 AM in DeMoss first floor (1090 area, I think).
If nothing else, come on out to boo Kalander!

I don't know. I think Kallander's been looking pretty good lately. Probably because the only time he gets his picture taken is when he's handing us another trophy.
(yeah, I know that post was just dripping w/ Kool-aid; mmmm, tastes like victory)

At the end of the tournament, Liberty, Gardner Webb, and VMI all had identical records at 6-2, but Liberty earned the most points between matches of those 3 teams:

Since Liberty outscored VMI by 60 total points, BSC commissioner Kyle Kallander declared Liberty the champion of the Big South Conference Quiz Bowl Tournament.

Didn't even think about it, Sly, but the highlight of my morning was having lunch with Kyle Kallander. Fumble, if you had stayed for our tournamennt, you could have had lunch with the good commissioner, too.

Did he explain why G-W was competing even though they don't join the league for another year?

High Point and their "better than everyone else in academics" snotty attitude goes 0-fer?
And the school everyone loves to make fun over its academics 3-peats?
Yup...the LANDSCAPE IS REALLY CHANGING
Perhaps the Panthers need to drop back down to CONFERENCE CAROLINAS from whence they came in ATHLETICS and ACADEMICS!

And the school everyone loves to make fun over its academics 3-peats?
And that's with LU losing 3 seniors to graduation from last year's team, meaning 3 of our 4 starters on this year's team were new.
Also, look for a team photo and article about our championship in
The Liberty Journal and LU web page, possibly as early as Tuesday.
Here's the press release (with pic) from the Big South Conference office about Liberty's Quiz Bowl tournament victory:
