Long Island is very good...from what I hear they are better than anyone we've faced in the Big South, so this is a very good tune up since we'll more than likely face someone 1 level better than LI

C'mon ladies, lets dig this one out. However, if we do lose, it could be a good thing to get them fired up and ready for GTown and the NCAAs after that.

Lara Bartolomeo is not playing. Hopefully her "celebration injury" will be healed by tourny time.

Who was playing libero since Lara was out (sorry...at home in the outskirts of Farmville...I have dial-up and can't really check live stats, lol)? Was it Waneka (sp?) or did coach put Dalton in?

very doubtful she will be back. waneka will play in her spot if it comes to that.

Waneka is TOUGH...she'll step right in and do fine...

First two games we were in their with a team that is "better than anyone in the BS" or so I've been told...they are very big and we could have taken the first 2...that's a good sign (plus I'd never tell coach this but I dont mind a loss right now, it's almost needed 8) )

Update on Georgetown Match

I just got a call from Vadim at the match.

1st game Liberty
2nd game Liberty
3rd game Georgetown
4th game Liberty

According to Vadim, the refs called a very poor match... missing a lot of calls. After being very patient, Coach Pinder started to work the refs.

So, we split the day with a loss and a win. I hope this tune-up tourney gives coach Pinder and the girls what they need for the coming weeks... yes, I said weeks (plural... like in past the first round).

I can't get enough of this year... GO LIBERTY VOLLEYBALL!!!!!

I had the same problem. A gametracker full of goose eggs. Nice to get the split.

well i just got back from the tournament and there were some obvious bad calls today against G-town and pinder was almost in the refs face. Waneka at libero was pretty good today. as HMO Said about long island they have a big front line.

LIU was very big up front and had some great servers. Chelaine's dad told me they are 2nd in the NCAA in service aces. I think all but 2 of their servers did jump serves. Molly told me one of their ladies is first in the NCAA in aces. Their serving hurt us because we just didn't pass well on serve receive, and as a consequence, couldn't get into our offense. Our blocking was a little suspect also. We seemed to be moving slower than usual. LIU was a very good team, but I believe if we had played more like our usual game, we would have beaten them. They are loaded with seniors and played like it.

Georgetown was a different matter. They are not very good, but we let them stay around and it cost us in game 3. I game 1 they only had 10 kills as a team and still had 28 points. We made too many mistakes and let them almost steal it from us. In game 2 we played much better. Then we let up in game 3 again, and it cost us. Game 4, we got back on track and finished like we should have. I know Coach was not happy with the Gtown performance.

As for Becca, she played very well. She anticipated well and made some really nice defensive plays. She served well also. She was a bright spot in an otherwise mediocre day.

What really got Coach upset with the down ref was that we had a ball that they blocked and we played, but the up ref called it a 4 ball. Coach asked the down ref to let the up ref know they touched it, and he told Coach he said he couldn't override the up ref's call. Later, they hit one in the net that went out and the ref called it out and said it was our point. The Gtown coach told the down ref that we touched it on the block, and he overruled the up ref and said it was their point. The down ref made no move to make the call until Gtown's coach came up to him and made her call. That's when coach got about 3 inches from the down refs nose and told him it was the very same call he said he couldn't override when it happened to us. I didn't think we had touched the ball, so I called out to the ref and told him to give the Gtown coach a white shirt and a whistle. At the end of game 3 a Gtown player came charging up to the net to tip the ball over for the last point and crashed into the net. The down ref was oblivious and didn't call it. It would have tied the game at 31. That was when Coach got in his face again.

Refs in both matches let a lot of ugly ball handling go uncalled on both sides of the net. Unfortunately for us, more of the bad ball handling happened on the other side of the net. If they had called tighter, we would have come out ahead point wise.

The more I think about this game the more excited I get....LIU is a lot like what our first round competition will be like...bigger more physical than anyone else in the BS....yet we could have taken both matches....now we know what we need to do plus when you look at our stats we didnt play our game or pass like we always do. Those differences could be the difference between going 3 and out to putting up a good fight

Sounds to me like a good "tune up" and also that we could have beaten LIU. I say, a positive thing all around.

Go Flames!
