Shockingly enough, there hasn't been much talk about Josh's quest for his first national championship.

This year's race will again take place in Terre Haute, Indiana on Monday, November 19. The men's race will begin at noon and will be carried LIVE on CSTV and on the internet at http://ustfccca.cstv.com/genrel/111507aab.html .

You do have to register to watch, but it is free.

Go Josh!

McDougal Hopes Fourth Time is the Charm at NCAA National Cross Country Championships
Liberty senior Josh McDougal, an 11-time All-American, is seeking his first NCAA national championship, as he is set to compete at the NCAA Division I National Cross Country Championships, in Terre Haute, Ind. McDougal, who captured the Southeast Region title this past Saturday, is one of a short list of favorites to win Monday’s 10K championship, which is set to begin at 12:05 p.m.

This is actually a really good article from the SIDs. It is in-depth and shows a lot of research and analysis. Looks like they put football-like work into this one. Well, maybe basball-like work, but you get the idea.

Go Josh!

Josh: "I'm not going to the NCAA meet to finish second". "I'm going to run the entire 10k trying to win. This is my last shot".

Gotta love that attitude!

I'm trying to squeeze some viewing time into my lesson plan for Monday. Not sure how that's going to work, though. "Yeah, kids, just finish that worksheet while I sit over here and watch a cross country meet on my computer." I may need to work on my delivery for that to fly.

What's up with the Monday race anyway? Something tells me it has to do with football on Saturday, but that's just a guess.

With all the excitement this weekend, let's not forget about Josh tomorrow. I REALLY want him to get that win, and in many ways it would be the crowning achievment of an incredible 3 days for LU sports.

Okay, here's how I see things shaping up tomorrow at high noon (:05) in Terre Haute.

Josh has proven that he is fast- I mean really fast at the end of the race. His 3:57 mile last spring shows that his foot speed is great. He also showed us at Pre-Nats and Regionals that he can smoke a last 500m if he needs to in order to win a big one.

That being said, there are a couple of serious kickers in the race that he hasn't faced this year in Lopez Lomong and Matt Withrow. Withrow outkicked Josh and Galen Rupp (more on him in a second) four years ago at the Footlocker National Championships, so there is a little history there. If Josh waits until the last 1000 meters to make a push, I'm not sure he can win, but I could be wrong.

On the other hand, if Josh and Galen Rupp (fastest NCAA 10k in history) decide to push the pace from the gun, they will likely take the kickers out of thier element. Now, Galen is definetly fast, but he has shown himself to be beatable, notably in last year's 10,000 meter NCAA championship. If it is this kind of race, I like Josh's chances against Galen's kick.

I see the later scenario playing itself out. These guys are much smarter than I am and study each other more that most athletes, so they know each other's tendencies VERY well. In the end, it will come down to who wants it the most. Based on what Josh has been quoted as saying this past week and his fitness level, I would have to say that he has a great chance of capping an incredible NCAA cross country career tomorrow with a national championship.

Im sure he is serious. The last few years the weather has been terrible at the Nationals. Josh has shown how good he can do when the course is very dry (and therefore fast).
