That is how you stay a traditional style marching band and still be entertaining as crap. Not Russian Sailor's Dance.

The thing is, that halftime show would be played out if they did it for six home games. That was Exhibit A for changing shows throughout the year. It was something in which the drill was not overly hard yet it was very visually stimulating, something our band has no idea how to do.

Do you have another year of eligibility, or are you considering petitioning the NCAA?

Dr. Kerr, if you're reading this...DO IT. I know it means no flag corps, but they don't look good out there anyway...just dress them up in the characters.

We did this one year (88 I think). Everybody complained about the shows because they weren't as good as the previous years' shows were. Of course, the year before was the year we marched halftime at the Meadowlands, so maybe they were right.

At the business meeting yesterday Dr Kerr mentioned that not only is the band traveling to at least one away game next year...but he tossed out some places he was considering and efforting for another travel opportunity for teh band including:
a World Series game
an NFL game (Monday night football is what he mentioned)
Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
He mentioned a couple others but I could not hear them

Is it bad if I finished the "Our band would be awesome if..." with "they dissapeared"?

Well if it is it would be because you misspelled it...the band isn't going to disappear anytime soon

Who said you could correct people? Shouldn't you be interacting with the fans right now?

hah...thanks for that...misspelled words have been a pet peeve of mine even back to elementary school. I was the kid in the situation that if I ever misspelled a word on a spelling test or in a spelling bee...it was breaking news across the school

I think the band has the potential to be an amazing unit. I think that the focus should be less on getting as big as possible and on being a very visually stimulating and musically sound band. Now Im still excited at the amount of growth that the band has experienced over the last few years (mostly from being right in the middle of it), but Jon does raise a very good point about the fact that the band really is not that much fun to watch. Many of the people that are in the stands at halftime each and every home game are not folks you would see at a DCI show. Id like to see us play some more popular (and even more current) tunes in the stands. Id like to see the band play a lot more often and have less of the "canned" music that comes in over the PA system. Id like to see the band really have a lot more fun on the field (I d like to see more dancing or entertaining choreography. I would not have a problem with the band doing more than one show if it not only does not affect the quality of the marching, but keeps the fans excited at halftime.

I've got some ideas on how they could attain that goal.

Fire me a PM with said ideas. Now that I am a former band member (and come may a band alum) I would love to find ways for the band to get better
