Question For The Week Of Oct. 5, 2007

Jeff,

Why doesn't Liberty have a women's golf team?

Greg Young
Lynchburg, Va.

Dear Greg,

We are looking into adding several women's sports. However, women's golf will not be one of them. The athletics department did an Interest and Abilities survey with the student body this past January to find what interests and abilities our student body had for adding a women's sport here at Liberty. Our students showed virtually no interest in women's golf. There were some other sports that came back to us as potential ones to add and by NCAA regulations, we will have to put them as top priority. We are currently doing our due diligence on those sports with the hope of making an announcement soon regarding what sports will be added to our program and the timing of those additions.

Perhaps Greg is into the stereotypical female golfer look.

1. Men's volleyball
2. Women's Lacrosse?
3. Men's and Women's mountain biking

Do we have the pools for swimming?

I've heard that if we expand the lake on the mountain as planned, rowing could be an option.

I believe we needed certain land to expand it. The woman who owns that land goes to my church, and she has told my wife she will not sell. LU has upped the offer a couple of times but she said she wants to pass it on to her kids when she dies and they can do whatever they want with it at that point.

It'll be field hockey or lacrosse. I think those were the two that got the most interest last year.

Why not RIFLE? NCAA sport and not gender-specific.

I was thinking equestrian as well, but thought the other two were higher. Guess I was wrong on one of em.

you may have something. I can't recall exactly. Don't lose hope - you may yet get your wish and see those field hockey ladies scampering around on campus!

I really don't care. I doubt I'll watch either one. I'll pull for em because they have Liberty across the chest, but I'm not getting excited and tailgating a game.

Equestrian would be great- then LUPD could use the horses throughout the week as crowd control- eliminating the need for patrol cars and thus air pollution. Al Gore applauds your efforts.

Al Gore invented horses just for that reason.

I thought they were working on reasons why NOT to have an equestrian team (Without using the "its too expensive" excuse...which it is).
