Turner Named Big South Men’s Co-Golfer of the Week
April 7, 2006 · Lynchburg, Va.

Liberty senior Andrew Turner (Lititz, Pa.) and Coastal Carolina junior Dustin Johnson (Lexington, S.C.) have been selected as the Choice Hotels Big South Men’s co-Golfer of the Week, while Lady Chanticleers senior Lindsey Letzig (Richmond, Mo.) has earned Women’s Golfer of the Week, it was announced today by the league office.

Turner claimed his first career collegiate individual title by one stroke over the field of 115 golfers at the Drew Upton Tiger Memorial Classic. He posted his best 36-hole total of the season by finishing with a 6-under par 138 (72-66). Turner tied a course record and set a new career-low with his final round 66 to jump from 18th place to the top of the leaderboard.

Johnson fired a final round three-under 69 to earn runner-up honors – falling short by one stroke -- at the Administaff Augusta State Invitational, helping the Chants to their second team title in the last three events. Ranked eighth in the nation by Golfweek, Johnson posted under-par scores of 69-70-69 for an 8-under 208 in the 54-hole event that featured several nationally-ranked teams and individuals. Johnson has posted top-20 finishes in nine of his 10 events this year, including three first-place and five top-5 finishes.

Letzig paced the Lady Chants at the John Kirk/Lady Panther Invitational, finishing in a tie for eighth with a 9-over 153 (74-79), leading the team to a tie for sixth in the event. It was her first top-10 finish of the 2005-06 season and the fourth of her career. Additionally, Letzig’s opening round of 74 was her season-best.

The 2006 PUPS/PDPS Big South Women's Golf Championship begins next week at Bent Brook Golf Course in McCalla, Ala. and will be hosted by Birmingham-Southern College. The Panthers will be the No. 1 seed in the event, which tees off Monday morning, April 10 at 8:00am CT. The Men's Championship is scheduled for April 17-19 at The Patriot Golf Club in Ninety-Six, S.C. The men's seedings will be announced next week.
