i personally like it. esp. since coastal has an edge over us. if we continue to do well in baseball and softball, and win track like we usually we do we can win it. nothing wrong with having the overall best athletic program in the big south.

Liberty Currently Second In Latest Big South Sasser Cup Standings
March 28, 2006 · Lynchburg, Va.

The Big South Conference released its latest update to the 2005-06 Sasser Cup standings and Liberty University currently stands in second place behind Coastal Carolina University after the completion of the winter sport season, while Liberty ranks first in the latest Women’s All-Sports standings.

Coastal Carolina and Liberty have finished first and second in the final Big South Sasser Cup standings for the last eight years, with Liberty claiming the title five times (1998, 1999, 2000, 2002 and 2003) and Coastal Carolina winning three times (2001, 2004, 2005) over the eight-year stretch.

The Chanticleers have accumulated 101.25 points for the overall lead, ahead of second-place Liberty (95.00) and third-place Winthrop (82.50). Coastal Carolina won the women’s indoor track & field championship in February to add to its championships in women’s cross country, men’s soccer and football this season. Liberty collected women’s basketball and men’s indoor track and field championships this winter to add to the Flames cross country and women’s soccer titles which were captured during the fall.

Winthrop holds third-place by 8.5 points in the standings over fourth-place High Point (74.00). Following the Panthers, which was in fifth-place following the fall season, are Radford (62.00), UNC Asheville (58.50), Birmingham-Southern (53.50), Charleston Southern (49.25) and VMI (38.25).

In addition to the overall lead, Coastal Carolina leads the men’s All-Sports Award race. Coastal Carolina has compiled 43.25 points on the men’s side, ahead of Liberty (35.50). The Flames, fueled by its regular-season and tournament championships in women’s basketball, jumped into first place in the women’s All-Sports Award race with 59.50 points, slightly ahead of Coastal Carolina (58.00). Winthrop is third in both races, compiling 48.00 points on the women’s side and 34.50 points on the men’s.

The Sasser Cup Trophy, named for former Big South Commissioner Buddy Sasser, is awarded to the Big South member institution with the most successful year athletically based on a points system. Points are awarded based on both regular-season and tournament finish in each of the League’s 18 championships, based on the number of teams participating in the regular-season and tournament, respectively.

A school must be eligible to participate in a specific sport championship to receive Sasser Cup points in that sport. There shall be a weighted factor of 1.5 for those sports that only participate in regular-season play (football) or a tournament (cross country, track, golf), but not both. Teams tied in regular-season or tournament play shall split the points earned.

Eight championships will be crowned later this spring. The current Sasser Cup and the Women’s and Men’s All-Sports Awards standings are listed below.* The standings are through the Big South’s 10 fall and winter sport championships.

not looking good. as reported by JACKET over on the CCU board:
ccujacket wrote:I think it's clinched. If my count is right the top three are:

CCU 167.25
WU 139.0
LU 131.0

There are 28 points still out there, I believe. So even if we got no points in the last two sports SB and BSB, which is impossible since you get 1 minimum for BSB and 2 minimum for SB, we'd still win.

I don't see why in the world we just don't add women's golf so we can get the entire complement of points.

Cause you know...that would mean we'd have to...you know...allow...yeah. I guess we could recruit next time Soulforce is in town.

I kid, I kid. Normally I wouldn't make that joke, but I guess I'll let it slide tonight.

El Scorcho...you're talking nonsense and it should just be the start of your shift...
...by your logic we should eliminate SBL and VBL.

Trust me...
...my son played HS golf and there is some great girl's golf talent in just our area (the girls play on the boys' teams), as well as nation wide. I am certain their dads would love to send their little girls to a nice school such as ours'.

I never claimed logic! Besides, I'm off tonight. My condition on work nights and non-work nights often varies quite a bit. :)

And you'd never get a peep out of me about doing away with volleyball. Ever.
