The Liberty volleyball team is predicted to finish second in the Big South’s annual preseason poll, as voted by the conference’s head volleyball coaches and sports information directors. Additionally, sophomore setter Kallie Corbin has earned a spot on the preseason all-conference team, as announced today by the Big South Conference office.

I like going into the season with a #2 ranking. The team can be proud of the respect shown to them, yet motivated to prove they can compete for the top spot.

It would have been nice to see Mary Alice Pike on the Big South Preseason All-Conference Team
with Kallie Corbin, she is the best Right Side in the conference.

I cannot wait to see this team take the court... just 10 days away! Go Liberty Volleyball!!!

This is a huge opportunity for the team this season to have their best year. With the talent they have on the team right now, they can do it. Add the fact that we host the Big South Championship this year and we have the potential for a great season.

Gymtalk, thanks for the reminder regarding this site. I got locked into the Prepvolleyball site and forgot about this great forum. I agree that Mary Alice should have been included in the Big South Pre-Season All Conference Team.

I stopped by practice today and I'm telling you what, these incoming girls are stellar. Not to mention Nik is only about 50% right now....but dont laugh when you see on the lineup card that there is a 5'5" outside hitter starting....little bacon that came to play DS is showing off her mid 30's vert often and is pushing her way in

Sportscritic may have further in depth info on our "secret weapon" as he put it

Youth & Experience = Wins

I've heard all the freshman are great, and each have excellent skills... a good sign for the future.

As we enter this season, I'm looking for a handful of returners to bring points and strong defense:

Mary Alice Pike - With her power coming from the right side, MAP will keep other teams honest and give Kallie offensive options across the front of the net.

Ashley Webber - With her HUGE blocks and ability to smack the ball for points, Ashley will make other teams play on the outside.

Lara Bartolomeo - With her great athletic ability, Lara will have her best year yet as a DS or L.

Jessica Nelson - With her big hops, excellent passing, and smart hitting, Jessica will be a money player when we need a point to close out a game.

Alysson Sanders - With her great year in 2006 as a spring-board, Alysson will be ready to add to her point totals.

Kallie Corbin - With her knowledge for the game and soft hands, Kallie will put the ball where it needs to be for points.

Again, I can't wait to see this team play!!!

Gymtalk, I share the same opinion on this years group of players. I talked with a junior on the team last week and her impression of the incoming freshman was that this is a very talented group.

I beleive Karyl Bacon can also help in the front row when needed. She played her High School and club ball here in So Cal. On her high school team she was an outstanding outside hitter and when playing for 951 Elite Club, she played Libero. Don't let her size fool you, she can play with the big girls.

I will be at the Vines twice in October, see you there.

This is a very fun group to watch and I cant help but to think about Boggs for next year...but thats next year :)

I think we'll see little bacon help out on the right side at times...but we'll see

I'm guessing practice will be today at 3:00 again, I'm going to try and stop by

I wasn't there, but I heard Coach Pinder was happy with the effort by the team on Friday. From all indications, this team in entering the season with a lot of wind in their sails.

Hey Hold My Own, did you get to their practice? If so, what did you see and hear?

Flying Out For Games?

GRM - Are you coming out for some matches this year?

Chopertony - Which games are you scheduled for again?

We will be coming out three times... it's a long trip from Oregon to Virginia, but worth every mile.

Would you like to do a pre-game or post-game meal?

I'd love to get together, but I don't know that I will be able to get there this year. I'll let you know if I do. Next year, Coach says they're coming to the West Coast.

Nicki's shoulder is still recovering from offseason surgery - she's playing currently way below her normal level.

Yeah, I was kinda surprised to not see a West Coast tournament on the schedule. Anyway. hope u and the other west coast fans out there can make a trip over here sometime. It'd be great to meet y'all.

I was in the computer lab yesterday and Kallie Corbin happened to sit next to me. She sounds very excited about the season. (Made extra sure to ask if I was coming to any games, which I answered in the affirmative)

Flying to Lynchburg

Gymtalk, I will make the trip from San Diego for home games on:

Oct. 5 & 6 ( Charleston & Coastal)

Oct. 26 & 27 (High Point & Winthrop)

My third trip will be on Nov. 15 - 24 for the Big South Playoffs.

Talk about some frequent flyer miles! I only have two seasons left so I have to make the best of it. Let me know if any of these dates match up with your dates and we will get together.

I have also heard that the 2008 pre-season may bring the Flames back to the West Coast. I would not be surprised if they end up more towards your area for a tournament.

senior night?

Has anyone noticed that the team's schedule on-line says that the home match on Nov. 6 against NC Central, and not the final home match of the year on Nov. 10 against Radford, is "Senior Night?" Why would they not have Senior Night the final home contest of the regular season? Is this choice an effort to avoid the subtle embarassment of losing on Senior Night that was endured last season?

Maybe its just me, but beating Radford on Senior Night would only make it sweeter. But, I guess if its not a sure thing...

Coming Back For More!

Chopertony - Here are the games we (wife and I) are coming back for:
Liberty Invitational - 8/24 and 8/25
Villanova Classic - 9/14 and 9/15
Parent Weekend - 10/26 and 10/27
Big South Championship - Wait and see

It looks like we will only see each other at parent weekend... NUTS!!!

Well, I'll take your daughter out for a good meal, if you will do the same.

GO LU VOLLEYBALL!!!

Sorry for moving this topic back up top, but I was bored and decided to see what the preseason projections were. You guys were pretty much right with your predictions. Think we may be preseason #1 this year?
