Food for Thought

Aside from the High School invitationals,

Has either program implemented any running clinics or summer running camps for the local high school athletes? Camps for Statewide/Mid-Atlantic Region runners (Running camps are a huge part of the yearly training regimen of serious high school runners in New England. When I lived in VA in high school, they were not really on any radar of any runners I knew.)

Do any of the current stable of runners make appearances in the local schools/community like the football team was doing a while back?

It seems like it would be a beneficial thing if LU were to put on some running clinics and such for the central Virginia region, maybe like the LU Central Virginia Running Clinic Series or something.

How much of a hotbed of running talent is the Central Virginia region? With the challenging training terrain, it would seem it should produce some decent runners out the high school programs in the region.

Not much is being done...at least publicly. Like you said, some of the district and or regional meets...and even the Group AA state meet...have been held at least on the indoor track.

As far as the impact on state runners goes, Josh and the boys have raised all sorts of awareness around the Tidewater area. Any mention of Liberty at a meet brings all sorts of questions from parents, athletes, and coaches.

If anyone wants to hook me up with a new LU T&F or XC hat or t-shirt, I will gladly be a walking advertisement of the team. Right now I just have an old beat up hat (thanks for the 18th b-day present, Pete) that Mrs. LUGrad doesn't like me wearing in public.

Choice in what you wear generally is one of the things you leave at the altar when the vows are exchanged. You get to a certain point where you pick your battles (if you know what I mean).

Glad to hear LU is generating a buzz in the track circles.

I know that we are having a running camp this summer. Josh and coach Jimmerson will be there to help out at that. We are also always in the process of talking to the local schools about doing day clinic type things during the school year.

the day clinic sounds like a great idea.

a good way to remind the locals that there is a very good DI program IN TOWN!
