Track makes Powell jump
Cottondale senior looks to add 1A state titles to the 2A triple-jump crown he won while at Marianna

Cottondale senior Clarence Powell began competing in track and field as a freshman at Marianna High School, but it wasn't the thrill of the field events that immediately drew him to the sport.

“(It was) the girls,” Powell admitted. “But then I got better at it.”

Powell, wearing his customary big smile, remains humble despite having a state title under his belt. He jumped 46 feet, 10 1/4 inches to take first place at the 2A championships last year, and he's ready for another shot this week at the 1A finals in Winter Park.

48-10 1/2 in the triple jump.

6-8 in the high jump.

22-6 in the long jump.
Great TJ and HJ. Not so much on the LJ, but If he is doing all three in meets, he is going to lose a little on that one. Nice find, Tolsma!
