According to a recent student survey, Liberty is going to add a women's sport in the near future and students had the most interest/ability in the following 5:
Bowling
Lacrosse
Equestrian
Swimming
Field Hockey
(note: this is random order, they didn't announce the poll stats).
Note that golf (the only Big South sport Liberty does not compete in) is not included.

So, on this board, what would you like to see added? You can post golf, but its not included in the poll b/c it wasn't one of the top 5.

Golf makes the most sense since we already have a conference for it.

I agree, and I'm sure the powers that be agree to, however it seems like they're setting up for adding something different than golf.

All the Equestrian teams I have seen are loaded with hot chicks....so, that is my decision

I was trying to figure out which team was better looking.

All the equestrian chicks I've met have been good looking but rich stuck-up girls. But good looking.

And they were at SBC.

The answer is so simple: add Rifle.

Think about it. Lower insurance costs, no need to build a field and comparatively low equipment/upkeep costs.

Best of all: it's chicks w/ guns! :D

Libertine...you are right...as rifle is a non-gender specific sport...so it meets Title IX needs. We could get the NRA as sponsors of the team, too.

I voted for Lacrosse simply because we already have a team...

does this adding of a women's team mean they are inching closer to moving the hockey team to the NCAA???

I thought the Lacrosse team shut down. And wasn't it just a club sport to begin with?

Hockey has nowhere near the talent to go Division I anytime soon. We'd be a decent NCAA D3 team now, but we aren't close to DI.

Wouldn't it make sense that if we move to DI hockey, more talent would come?

I know SJ and you should know by reading my past posts I have said we should move to D3 before D1 (I have no idea why there is a D1 and D3 in hockey, but no D2...weird)....so yes I agree...but if we move our team to D3 hockey won't we still be giving some scholarships?? I am not a expert on it, so I could be wrong I guess...so if we do give some scholarships then we have to add some scholarships somewhere....

I am just curious to why they are looking to add another woman's sport...maybe there is something more in the works

All sports must be in the same division, unless you're in a lower division then you can have one male and one female sport be in a higher division besides football or basketball (our men's baseball team was NCAA D1 long before the rest of the athletic department).

As for D2 hockey, there is no D2 hockey b/c there are not enough schools for it.
Anyway, this is just a thought but couldn't us and some other schools start a non-schollie D1 leauge (similar to the Pioneer football league) for hockey and then add scholarships over time as it became more competitive??? Just a thought...anyway, back to the topic of adding another women's sport. HMO, Lib, do ya'll know what direction Barber is leaning towards? You don't have to come right out and say it, but just a hint would be nice.

D3 has no scholarships. I should've added that we can't go D3 because I knew that, but I forgot to add it.

Golf is a logical add but wouldn't offset a tremendous amount concerning the Title IX scholarship thing from the big ticket men's sports since I think Men's Golf already divies up a small amount of scholarships anyway.

Field Hockey might make natural sense (southeast is a hotbed for field hockey) and then add swimming as a men's and women's team down the road (like track, you wouldn't have a men's team without a women's team.) Then LU fits the CAA sports paradigm (one can still dream...) or make a jump to a higher level with some from the CAA ranks.

This whole survey thing was mentioned awhile back in a thread:

http://flamefans.com/forums/viewtopic.p ... 96&start=0
1. One natural scholarship/scholastic women's sport to add as a counterpoint to Ice Hockey in order to comply with Title IX that has a huge Southeastern/Mid-Atlantic presence is NCAA Women's Field Hockey. I have known and heard of several potential female students who went elsewhere because of no field hockey when I was at the LU. Of course, they would have to participate as an affiliate in another conference, perhaps they could prusue an affiliate status with the CAA since it's geographically close and since the CAA sponsors Women's Field Hockey...Could also be a step in the right direction to proving to the CAA that LU athletics & Athletics Management will not tarnish their league's image.

Also, the USA Field Hockey Training Center is in Virginia Beach. http://www.usfieldhockey.com/usfha/training_center.htm
PA, VA, MD, MA, etc. are all areas where field hockey is a staple (a successful area geographically for recruiting efforts.)

2. After adding something like Field Hockey, another sport they could add would be NCAA Swimming...Title IX would take care of itself as in Track since you would field a men's and women's team.

3. I also wouldn't mind seeing NCAA Lacrosse added several year years down the road, as the school ascends the population growth goal and monetary endowment ladder.

***Actually, even though it's been firmly established on the board that the CAA is a pipedream, the league does have all of the current sports we have (sans Ice Hockey) and all of the potential ones LU might offer in the future...it's too bad that is not an option into the foreseeable future.

We're adding a cartwheel team.

OK, that joke is finally starting to get old. Starting to anyway.

Scorcho...I bet you can always go on the web site and click on the roster and pull up pictures...LC does that for most of their teams so I am sure the riders have it, too.
