A Sea Of Red

I won the drawing a the Flames Club luncheon today and I hit the jackpot. I won a wooden trash can thing that they sell for $30 in the bookstore. It is painted red w/ logo on it. It was filled with various items such as a LU hat, 2 flags for the car, LU pens, LU mints(yes they have a tin of mints that look like Altoids but have the LU logo on it) a car decal, stadium blanket, LU Logo lapel pin and a stuffed eagle!!!!!

Very nice! I'm jealous.

I do feel I got the better end of stick. The other drawing was for a batch of cookies. As good as they probably were........

Anyway I do like some of the ideas the new A mentioned about our facilities. He seemed like they were one of our main priorities now. He mentioned new turf for the football field, lights & new scoreboard for the baseball stadium, (how cool will that be first lights at Wrigley now this) and floor for the weight room. He didn't mention this but how about seats for the soccer field??? They can't cost that much but it is the one sport where we have more fans than seats. Those bleachers can't cost that much.

I do know that the AD and his family were at the baseball game on Saturday. Just thought I'd mention that.

I seem to recall someone- HMO?- saying that a donor had been found for the soccer stadium re-furb
project. The initial estimate for seating was in the neighborhood of 300 K, I thnk.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know how many people normally attend the Flames Club luncheons being it seems there aren't even many Flames Club members. Albeit it membership does seem to be increasing.

I actually was part of a whole project on that soccer stadium thing when i used to work for Proto and we made a pitch to a huge possible donor with plenty of $$$ available ( don't know if proto wants me to reveal the name or not) but i don't recall the exact budget but i think it might have been a little over that projection. They also talked about possibility of having soccer played at the football stadium once field turf was put in, but i am not sure how far those discussions got.

soccer at Williams. Hmmm, thats an interesting thought.

I definitely prefer soccer on grass- but I guess the maintenance costs do get up there.

Flames Club Breaks Records; Luncheon Moves To Football Operation Center

Liberty University Athletics continues the 2006-07 Flames Club luncheon season on Friday at a new location for the event, the Williams Football Operations Center. So far the Flames Club has achieved record memberships this year already surpassing last season’s entire total. Through September 1, The Flames Club has 350% more in membership than on the same date last year.

A total of 135 people attended the first Luncheon of the 2006-07 season (August 25), which was held in the Reber-Thomas Dining Hall due to continuing construction at the Williams Football Operation Center. Starting on Friday, all remaining luncheons will be held at the Williams Football Operation Center.

Headlining the list of featured speakers for Friday’s luncheon will be head football coach, Danny Rocco who will discuss last week’s shutout victory as well as Saturday night’s home game against Glenville State.

Men’s soccer coach Jeff Alder and women’s soccer coach James Price will round out the list of speakers as they discuss their teams and the start to their seasons.

The Flames Club serves as the booster organization for Liberty University Athletics and will meet once a month on a designated Friday during the athletic season. The meeting will run from noon to 1:30 p.m. and lunch is provided for a $10 cover charge. Select coaches will speak each week, giving insight into the progress of their programs, presenting video highlights and taking questions from those present.

Discount advance tickets are available for each luncheon, and season passes may be purchased for the remaining 10 luncheons scheduled for only $70. Passes are non-refundable and non-transferable. Tickets may be purchased by calling 582-SEAT e-mailing tickets@liberty.edu, or by visiting the Vines Center Ticket Office.

This year the luncheons are sponsored by UBS Financial Services, with door prizes provided by the Liberty University Bookstore. The remaining 2006-07 Flames Club Luncheon schedule is as follows:
