Liberty gets a verbal from Karyl Bacon

If you're a LU volleyball fan, you've got to be feeling good about Karyl Bacon joining the program next season. According to scouting reports, she is one of the best defensive specialists in Southern California. Scouts and coaches project her to be a strong back-row player at the D1 level, but with a 30+ vertical, most believe she could play front row for many D2 schools. She and Nicki Scripko (the other incoming freshman) are strong “blue chip” players, and I can’t wait to see what they bring to the program.

Vball is on the verge of some pretty good things...not to mention Joel leaving WU helps out alot...I'm looking forward to the first top 100 player in volleyball history to make her debut along with Karyl

Was surfing some volleyball websites and came across these posts.

OUTSIDE HITTER EMILY STOCKMAN TRANSFERS FROM WINTHROP TO WICHITA STATE
Why is she leaving Winthrop? New coach? I remember she didn't want to stay and play in Colorado, but to go to Wichita State where the roster is full and I would assume that there is no scholarships available. It appears she had a good season last year.

STOCKMAN
Closer to home for Stockman, higher level, yes, a scholarship - no, not until summer will she enroll.
Withrop not allowing her to train this spring -new coach even.....how could it hurt ?
Also - out going coach not overly open to allowing her release....not cool!

Winthrop will always be tough, but Stockman will be hard to replace.

As for the verbal from Bacon being "iffy" - No way! I can't see her shopping. Her mind is made up, and coach Pinder has her word on it. She and her father were on campus during "Parents Weekend" and many of us parents of players got to know them - very, very nice people! I believe she can't wait to be at LU.

Verbals in vball are generally pretty reliable. And for all of the talk back in football season, our verbals stayed true save two.

Hey krh44,

Is Bianca Sande coming to Liberty in the class of 2007? You had her listed on your post, but it's a new name to me. What do you know?

I expect that from you Atrain...but come on Medic, I thought you were more educated than that! Bottom line is LU did better then they should have last year...look at where they were predicted to finish and where they did finish...now put into account they lost their best outside hitter and also put into account that a SETTER put up their best numbers swingin.....well now you understand why some of the coach's in the BS were asking how LU is able to do that when you add all of these things up. Ask the beat writer for the Champion he should know...and be selling these key things

For starters, Pinder did do a great job in recruiting Kallie Corbin. She is an amazing player and you can tell that by watching her on the floor.

Secondly, the only reason LU did better (3rd) than predicted (4th) is b/c Coastal had a really bad year (Predicted 3rd with 1 first-place vote, finished 6th-which proved they relied on Katherine Jensen-Spencer way too much).

Thirdly, while there are some positives (like beating UNCA, a record setting win against the Citadel) to the year, there are several glaring negatives as well: getting blanked by Davidson, followed by allowing Charleston-Southern to give us more fits than necessary-including their first conference win after mid-season over us at their place, falling on senior night to a team that Radford beat (ETSU), and being upset by Coastal in the first round of the tourney.

Fourthly, I tried to claim some "Moral Victories" on this board (hitting in positive numbers all three games against defending national champ Washington, VT's coach saying that we were the "best 0-5 team they'd ever seen") and got shot down. I further recall saying that I think Pinder had proved himself worthy to stay on another season to see if things were really turning around. With this incoming class, I think its possible.

Very gracious of you ATrain...I'd hate to think you'd fire him after only being responsible for one recruiting class (which one being the "amazing player" you mentioned)....let's see, that was the first recruiting class...his 2nd includes LU's first top 100 player ever, and quite a few more tricks, maybe even a transfer.... but again very gracious of you for allowing him another year

At least we know he can get the talent in here...maybe he just cant coach them....we should have Atrain coach the team and maybe Pinder can stay on and just be in charge of recruiting...he can also pump out a few champion articles with his new found free time

LU Volleyball will be fine....when it's time to panic, I'll be the first one screaming

It sounds like he is using his LU experience as a running joke on the Ticket up there in DFW.
