So does this team have the resume to get them to Nationals again this year? I'm guessing the solid showing last year would bode well for selection this year if you compete well enough at regionals.

LU scored 6 more wins at the NAQT Sectionals at UVa on Saturday. Including 3 wins by our varsity team playing in the DI bracket:

- Liberty over Delaware, 220-215
- Liberty over North Carolina, 265-100
- Liberty over North Carolina, 175-165

- Liberty JV over VCU, 395-175
- Liberty JV over Liberty Novice, 330-185
- Liberty Novice over Roanoke, 205-120

In our last home match of the season yesterday, the LU varsity and JV teams scrimmaged the faculty team comprised of 3 Ph.D.s and a librarian. The varsity team won both games, and our JV team of mostly freshmen kept it close against the faculty.

Round 1--varsity over faculty, 450-95

The LU Quiz Bowl Quiz Bowl team is at the ACF Nationals at the University of Michigan this weekend, and we scored 3 big WINS today:

LU over University of Michigan, 130-45
LU over University of California-San Diego, 135-60
LU over Ohio State University, 150-65

We finished with 4 wins, also defeating the University of South Carolina on Sunday morning, 120-95. We finished the tournament ranked 34th the country (but that even includes teams from Canada and England).

Our 34th in the country ranking was a combination of undergrad and grad school teams. Among just undergrad teams, Liberty finished tied for 14th in the country (with UCLA & South Carolina). That's our best national ranking ever.

Liberty's novice team traveled to Richmond on Saturday to complete in the VCU Novice Tournament and scored 4 wins:

LU over Reynolds CC, 400-40
LU over Longwood, 330-40
LU over VCU, 280-130
LU-A over LU-B, 90-70

We were also leading at the half against both Duke and Wake Forest, but lost two close matches to them. Longwood's coach told me that ALL their varsity team graduated last year, so their novice team will be their varsity team at the Big South Tournament in January. That's great news for Liberty, since Longwood is usually our toughest competition in conference.

Kyle Kallander was ready to cancel this year's Quiz Bowl tournament until Liberty stepped up and agreed to host the tournament on Saturday, Feb. 27, and 6 teams have confirmed thus far--Radford, Coastal Carolina, Campbell, Longwood, Gardner-Webb, & Liberty.
