App State Cuts Men's Program

Another one bites the dust... Sad to see after having a very successful season. Sad to see even if it was a VMI type season. Fairly decorated program with a top notch staff. Beat UNC this year 1 - 0.

Finances may be involved, but that certainly looks like they also have title IX issues. Winter track would probably be exclusively a budget thing, since all those athletes are generally in Outdoor track and/or CC as well.

No compliance issues. Budget concerns forcing them to try and shave 20% of budget. The underlying issue is that we need to see conference realignment to cut travel costs in this day and age. Liberty may be the exception because of their willingness to spend on athletics and good financial situation. But when you look at schools in the Southern Conference and Conference USA at some point, they are going to have to cry uncle on the travel costs and form more regionally based alliances. In App State's case only 5 or 6 of the schools in the Sun Belt fielded men's soccer. I would think that would help in allowing them to play more regionally out of conference games. But another one bites the dust nevertheless.
