With the recent disappointing results on the diamond, I thought we could all use some good news. Seems like Grant Tolesma and his troops are always good for that, and today is no different. The men are up by 37 points and the women by 28 on the second and final day of the ASUN championship meet.
Track and Field is something that is almost always underappreciated no matter where you go but what our program has been able to consistently do is just amazing.
The women have pulled away to a huge lead, but Kennesaw State has cut the lead to 13 on the men's side. The few remaining events should be strong ones for us, so I think we will be fine.
The men lost a couple of points to KSU in the 200m even though Alejandro Zapata won the event because the Owls had 3 in the top 6. On the other hand, with the javelin in progress, we currently are 1-2-3, and it's not very close. That's 24 points, and KSU is in 6th (1 point). We should be really strong in the 5000m and the 4x400 relay, so I think we can breath easy.
Things went about as expected in those last events and the men ended up winning by 46 while the women won by 90. KSU finished second in both. I'm thinking this puts us in the catbird seat to win the Bill Bibb trophy (ASUN equivalent to the Sasser Cup in the Big South) in our first year.
